DORIS J. REID (1923-2017)
Doris Jean Reid (nee Vurgason), age 93, lifelong resident of New York
(formerly of Bay Ridge in Brooklyn and Bellmore, Long Island)
passed peacefully on September 2, 2017. Devoted daughter of the
late Alice Cecilia (Dorney) and Franklin Albert Vurgason. Born
Tuesday, October 23rd, 1923 in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn.
Cherished younger sister of the late Beatrice J. Vurgason. A
graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Doris married John Henry
Reid at the Sacred Hearts of Mary and Jesus Catholic Church on
June 16, 1950, who preceded her in death in 2010 after 60 years
of marriage. Loving mother of John Henry (Dorthy) Reid of St.
Augustine, FL; Marialice (Robert) Krauss of St. James, NY;
William (Teresa) Reid of Naperville, IL; and the late Franklin
Albert Reid. Adored grandmother of Christopher, Gregory
(Renee), and Julianne Krauss; Jennifer Beatrice, Michael,
Evangeline, Alice Cecilia, and Grace Beatrice Reid. Dear sisterin-
law to the late Howard (Evelyn) Reid and fond aunt of Susan
Muncy, John Steven and Kevin Reid. Long term parishioner and
school parent at St. Barnabas parish, and dedicated docent and
interpreter at Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Local visitation
and service preceded burial at Calverton National Cemetery in
Wading River, NY alongside her beloved husband, a WWII
veteran. In keeping with her care for those in need, donations
