Robert LaMantia

Robert A. LaMantia, age 94, of Ridge, NY died Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Robert was born to the late Salvatore and the late Anna (Loguercio) LaMantia. He met his wife, Elisabeth, in Munich, Germany and married in 1947. They lived together in Elmont, NY before relocating to Ridge, NY in 1986. Robert graduated from Brooklyn College in 1942 with a degree in Physics and promptly signed up for military service. He served in England, France and Germany in the Army from 1942 through 1946 advancing from the rank of Private to Captain. Robert worked for Sperry Corporation for 22 years after the war and left only when the infamous SST project was unfounded. He then went to work for the New York Telephone Company until his retirement in 1984. In retirement Robert pursued a myriad of interests: gardening, baking, investing, reading, travel and relishing the company the company of his five grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elisabeth (Dallmeier) LaMantia, sons: Robert S. LaMantia & Jeanette Swan of Buffalo, NY, Kenneth R. LaMantia and wife Janet of Jamestown, RI, grandchildren Rob and Maggie LaMantia of Buffalo, NY and Kenneth A. LaMantia and wife Amanda of Beverly, MA, Christopher and Libby LaMantia of Jamestown, RI, sister, Edith Norton of Oakland Gardens, NY, and nieces Stephanie Pagliaro and husband Joe of Port Jefferson, NY and Suzy George and Husband Joe of Bayshore, NY. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Hospice Inn, of Hospice Care Network, 99 Sunnyside Blvd., Woodbury, NY 11797. Viewing hours will be held at Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point, NY from 2pm-4pm & 7pm-9pm on Sunday November 3rd, 2013. Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark's Church on Randall Road, Ridge, NY on Monday November 4th, 2013. Internment services will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
