Marie Elizabeth Vega, age 92, of Valley Stream died Friday, March 25, 2016. Marie was born November 11, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY. She is the daughter of the late Rocco late Mary Matero. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert J Vega on May 24, 1999. She was employed by Liberty Mutual Lynbrook, NY. She is survived by two sons: Robert Vega of Rocky Point and Michael Vega of Selden, NY; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Prayers will be offered 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 30 at Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point, NY. Burial will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton at 10:30 am. Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 29 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point, NY. The poet said “good fences make good neighbors…” I beg to differ. Marie Vega was my neighbor for more than 17 years and never have we been so blessed to know such a dear neighbor and friend. To know Marie was to know the truth as she saw it and would directly put it. Honest and charming, with disarming blue eyes Marie was a true lady of the “Old School.” Though diminished by her absence from us, we remain better for having known her and vow to keep the secret of making sauce that she shared with us.
Thank you Marie, my you abide in Glory forever. Thank you to the Vega family for your kind inclusion and sharing your wonderful Marie with us. Let us not become strangers.
