  2. My dear ole friend and coworker Jimmy, I will miss you along with everyone else here at BNL. You were a one of a kind. Your sense of humor was a big help getting us through the day, not to mention your hard work ethic and dedication and resourcefulness. Rest easy now and hope to see you again sometime in the big somewhere out there, Most sincerely, Charlie

  3. When I got to BNL over 20 years ago, I worked in the Physics Department with Myron Strongin. One of my early tasks was to work with Myron on some ultra-thin metal films, and at that time, Jimmy had been detailed to work with Myron and myself as a technician on that project. One of the tools I acquired along the way was a helium-3 bolometer for spectroscopy at very long wavelengths. After a couple of test runs, we got everything working and the He3 stage was sitting at just over 300 mK – to commemorate this momentous event, somebody took a picture and, naturally, Jimmy was in it! This is scanned in from a print – I have no idea what happened to the original, but I think it captures not only the moment, but Jimmy’s personality as well. Please pass this along to the family with my condolences.

  4. Fly high Jimmy!!!! You will be deeply missed at NSLS-II. Thanks for all the smiles and laughs. Much love to your family during this difficult time.

  5. Dear family; I offer you my condolences to Jimmy’s early passing. What a great man he was, always ready to help his colleagues at BNL, resourceful, fun, and motivating others to be a good as he was. Attached is a 1997 photo of a young Jimmy standing on top of the shield of the H4 triple-axis spectrometer at the HFBR.

  6. Jimmy was a great person to work with. We worked in the High Flux Beam Reactor back in the early ’90’s and he was a light-hearted person who was very conscientious in everything he did. My prayers are with his family.

  7. Jimmy was always happy. May not have agreed with something but always took everything in stride and always smiling. He took time to stop and talk. There was an innocence he possessed which offered good values, morals and character.

    You will be missed ……….

    Rest in Peace dear friend,
    Ann Marie Luhrs
