Rev. Dr. Raymond Santos passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 6 surrounded by his family after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Born on August 30, 1947 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and predeceased in death by his parents Eduardo Santos and Luz Maria Sepulveda.
Raymond is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-four years Monserrate Maysonet-Santos. Beloved father to three daughters and their spouses: Rev. Wanda (Rev. René Pérez), Elizabeth (Rev. Dr. Christopher Fisher) and Sarah (Javier Camacho). He was the devoted grandfather to and adored by Kayla (Nathaniel Kilmonis), Luke, Isaias, Mercy, Ezekiel, Kassandra, Raquel, Andres and Eva. Faithful brother to Eduardo, Miguel, Rev. Rosa, Rafaela, Victor (Deceased), Carmelo, Juan, Carlos and Jose.
He was a retired Elder of the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church where he served three congregations over thirty years. El Redentor Evangelical Church [1980-1984], El Redentor United Methodist, [1984-1988] in the Bronx, Hempstead Spanish United Methodist Church [1988-1997] in Long Island and First Spanish United Methodist Church [1997-2011] in Manhattan. He taught math in the New York City public school system prior to serving as clergy. He volunteered as a chaplain for the American Red Cross at ground zero in September 2001.
Raymond leaves a long legacy of selfless service, devotion to family and a wonderful sense of humor.
The family asks for any donations to go to The Assistance Fund, Inc. (Parkinson’s Copay Assistance Program) or The Lewy Body Dementia Association [LBDA] in memory of Raymond Santos.
