Dear Greene family , I’m so sorry for the loss of Mrs. Greene . Last week, I stopped by her room at the rehab nursing center ( my mother was staying three rooms away on the same floor). I said hello to Kathy and we talked briefly about Bob who was my longtime mentor at Newsday. I will keep Kathy and your family in my prayers. Much love Thomas Maier

A poem for my Aunt Kathy, my Godmother, my Friend

Thanks for the Memories…

She set a record for our family- living 92 3/4 years!!!
Many left us much, much younger
Always lots of tears…

She played basketball as a young teen
Then grew up and married her dream.

Moved from JC to a new Levitt home
Started her family – Bobby & Lea had room to roam.

She did cross-stitch and crochet
All the usual things in the usual way.

A move further East to a town called Kings
Allowed the whole family to spread their wings!

Tomatoes and flowers she planted in spring
Brought the joys and pleasure that digging in the dirt can bring!

She helped raise a sister when her parents were ill
Forging a deep bond no death can quell.

As with all lives there are many, many more facets
More lives impacted than flowers to fill a basket!

I’ve captured a small glimpse of my Aunt Kathy for you
Please say a prayer for her soul, and another too
For the sister she helped raise is our Matriarch anew!

Our visits to Jersey City were hurried, only on Holidays, and always too short! I remember being crushed into the station wagon never daring to be the next one who asked” Are we there yet? ” Our visits to Nana and Gramps were the only time we got to see Aunt Kathy and Uncle Bob. We would crush up the steep stairs and try to hear the grown-ups’ table talk instead of going to bed. But we knew that when they sent Aunt Kathy to tell us only one time to get to bed because we thought “She’s the Mean One’ ! Little did we know how wrong we were. Rest in Peace Aunt Kathy
