Born in Brooklyn in 1946, John was raised in Oakdale, Long Island by World War II Veteran John and his wife Antonina. After graduating from Adelphi College, he began a career with Sears Roebuck, where he met lifelong friends and his wife Marianne Romano. John went on to a decades long career in commercial real estate. It was a fitting profession; those who knew him can tell you he had a map-like memory of every street and town on Long Island, and he couldn’t go anywhere without making friends with everyone he met along the way . He was a hardworking family-man: proudly supporting his family and working passionately until the day he died.
John and Marianne settled in Wading River, where they raised their three sons, John J.A., Vincent, and Paul. John was the embodiment of a family patriarch: survived by his wife and sons, his daughter-in-law Courtney, sisters Nina Anne and Judi, adoring nieces and nephews, and his 18-month-old grandson Elliot, who brought so much joy to John in his final year.
Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and the doo-wop stars of the ‘50s and ‘60s never stopped playing while John was alive, and they will always be playing in the background of his family’s memories of him. Every one of those songs will forever remind us of John, and he will be deeply missed.

Peace and comfort to the Culmone family as you grieve the loss of John. Such a good man. We worked together 30 years ago and renewed our friendship a few years ago. The joy with his new grandson was much fun to witness, and he was so darn proud of each of the kids. A full life, much admired and well lived. God bless you John. My heartfelt condolences to the family.
John was a friend and colleague. A true gentleman and consummate professional. If I was in a foxhole I’d want John with me. My prayers are with John and family.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. John affected my life in so many ways, from a father figure, to a mentor, and a good friend. I learned so much from him and he helped me through many difficult times in my life. We talked for hours during car rides and laughed and joked at lunch meetings at the diner! I am a better person for knowing him and will miss him. I know that he is sipping a scotch on a cloud in heaven!
