Reynold A. Mauro

reynold mauro

November 27, 1943 ~ September 2, 2025

Reynold “Rey” Mauro (81) of Shoreham, beloved husband of Janet (Bogyos) Mauro, formerly of New Hyde Park, Glen Oaks, and Bay Ridge passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 in Port Jefferson. He is the beloved father of four children: Regina (Mauro) Savage and her husband David of Holliston, MA, Eugene (preceded in death) and wife Linda (Sepot) Mauro, Reynold Mauro of Shoreham, and Philip Mauro of Shoreham. He was also a cherished grandfather of nine grandchildren, Max Mauro, Will Mauro, Teddy Mauro, Samantha Mauro, Owen Savage, Keara Savage, Mikaela Savage, Liam Savage, and Ethan Savage. Rey was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Loretta (Flushing) Mauro, a Broadway dancer and Harold Mauro, a renowned trumpet player. He grew up in the Glen Oaks section of Queens where he first met his future wife at the age of 15 during a confraternity dance. He went on to receive his B.A. in History from Hofstra and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. Rey was Admitted to NYS Bar in 1970 with a focus on Litigation, Police Unions, and Labor Laws. Rey was a lifelong devoted Roman Catholic, choosing to propose to Janet at their parish church in Glen Oaks under the amused gaze of several nuns seated right behind them. After moving to Shoreham in the early 1970s, Rey became active at Saint Mark’s Catholic Church in Shoreham where he was a lector and a member of the finance committee for many years. In his spare time, Rey was passionate about politics (both local and national), sports, reading, and crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed writing poetry and fiction as well as imaginative stories for his grandchildren. Whether it be through work, through friendships, or interactions with total strangers, Rey showed an interest and curiosity in everyone he encountered. He “filled the room” with his presence and enjoyed telling stories to get a smile out of anyone who would listen. A devoted husband of 59 years and dedicated father and grandfather, little was more important to Rey than time with his family: on the beaches of Heather Hills or Cape Cod, singing lullabies and telling tales to help his grandchildren go to sleep at night, driving his son Rey on Uber Eats missions, attending countless football games, ballet recitals, and school plays of his grandchildren. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point, New York. Celebration of the Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 am on Monday, September 8, 2025 at his beloved parish St. Mark's RC Church, 105 Randall Road, Shoreham, New York. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Coram, New York. Visiting hours will be Sunday, September 7, 2025 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point, New York. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I worked as my police union’s president with Rey’s guidance for 9 years. Rey was an incredible resource for his legal knowledge and strategies. More importantly, Rey truly cared about all 125+ members of our union membership, and their families. I would not, and probably could not have lasted in the leadership role without Rey’s guidance and I would like to say friendship.
    Rest in peace Rey.
    Greg Whalen

  2. He was my best friend in Albany. Rey would do anything for someone in need. He took me to chemo regularly at a great inconvenience to him. Never complaining. I will miss him and our political discourse. Rest well Rey.

  3. Dear Regina and Dave and family,Our deepest condolences on Ray’s departure to Heaven. God has welcomed him and his passing is that of the just!

  4. So sorry to hear. I had the privilege of working with Rey getting two of the most lucrative contracts in Ramapo as President of the PBA. He was always there when I’d contact him. Being the same age we became friends not just colleagues. RIP My Friend. Russ

  5. With Deepest Sympathy, We honor a devoted colleague whose years of service and friendship to the Ramapo PBA has left a lasting legacy.

  6. You were a joy to know both growing up with and our reunions. You will be sorely missed.Love, Donny, Lynn & Marilyn Bradley Coker

  7. Eternal rest grant unto him, O lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen
It was a pleasure to know this kind, considerate and exuberant man. I know he’ll be missed by many.
My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

  8. We have fond memories of Renny, Pete goes way back to the teen days with Knights of Columbus. I had the pleasure of knowing him for many years as well. A wonderful husband, father, grandpa and friend, he will be very missed. All our love and condolences to Janet and their family.
Sincerely, Pete and Gloria Hisgen 💔🙏

  9. Our deepest sympathy to your family on your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  10. Our friend and lawyer. Always there to help. Such a smart and interesting person. He had the best stories. Always willing to give advice and share his insights. We are so grateful and fortunate to have known him.

  11. Dear Mauro family, The Clancy’s moved to Shoreham across the street from the Mauro’s September 12, 1989. Rey was the first person to knock on our door and welcome us to the neighborhood. Not 2 hours later a blonde boy rang our bell and asked if we had a boy his age ( he stated his age in years and months I remember). I called for Matthew, our oldest who came to the door. Philip said hi, do you want to come out and play? That started a long friendship.
Philip was Rey’s youngest, Matthew our oldest, both born in 1982, a few months apart. Rey and I coached our kids on sports teams, camped together with them in scouts, and every year went to Splish Splash on Father’s Day until their teenage angst prevented them from being seen in public with us. If passing our home Rey would always stop, say hello, we borrowed each other’s tools, and listened to each other’s really bad jokes. But his storytelling couldn’t be matched.
We moved from Shoreham after living on Reynolds Road for over 30 years. I miss our home, but more than that, I miss our neighbors none more so than Rey.

  12. Regina, Dave and family,We wanted to do something to remember your dad by. We hope these trees will remind you of his larger than life personality.

  13. I’m so sorry to hear of your passing. Above all, you have got to be one of the best dads anyone could have asked for. Supportive and loving you truly lived your life for your kids. Patient is not a strong enough word. A rock that everyone relied on, you loved unconditionally, and gave your family the solid foundation and peace of mind to live their lives doing what they love. Genuine, giving, thoughtful and kind you will always be a man everyone loved; it was impossible not to. Thank you for always being there if I needed something; little things like picking me up now resonate because of your stories, your good advice and guidance. Thank you for welcoming me into your family, letting Phil and I get away with so much and supporting us along the way. I have beautiful memories of you and because of you. You shaped my life in ways you probably don’t even know and I can’t thank you enough. You will be missed.
    Ryan
