John Meyer

John Meyer of Smithtown passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 87.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorit (née Stellmach), son Ronald (Winifred Feeley), daughter Elizabeth (Walter Crowley), grandchildren Megan Crowley and Eric Crowley, and his extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews.


Born in Germany in 1939 to parents Johann and Anna Meyer, John emigrated to the United States in 1959. His high school sweetheart, Dorit, followed soon after. They were married in 1960 and together pursued the American dream. John was a devoted family man, as well as a loyal friend and colleague to many throughout his life. Everyone knew John for his infectious smile and zest for life. His strong work ethic lives on in his children and grandchildren and helped him achieve the American dream he sought.


John was a longtime employee of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory where he worked until his retirement in 2010, he formed many friendships with colleagues that continued throughout his life.

In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no public service. Those wishing to honor his memory may make a donation to a charity of their choice.
