Emery E. McCombs, 53, of Commack, NY, died at home on September 27, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Brooklyn in 1970 to Clifton and Etta McCombs. He grew up surrounded by his incredibly supportive and close community on Willoughby Avenue, where he made life-long friends. As a young adult, Emery loved to travel and frequently visited Florida and other locations. He knew all the best nightlife spots and loved being out on the town with his friends. He was also known for his style and could always be spotted in a fresh Polo.
After many years in the Manhattan courier business, Emery joined GEICO, where he had a 20-year career. He was dedicated to work, loved what he did, and was well known and respected by his coworkers. At GEICO, he made so many amazing friends and met the love of his life, his wife, Katie.
Emery and Katie were excited to start a family of their own and their two sons meant the world to him. He loved spending time with his family, especially playing sports with his sons; watching his Knicks, Giants and Yankees; hosting pool parties, BBQs, and family gatherings; and going on many adventures- including taking their annual trip to Aruba.
Everyone who knew Emery knows how much he loved music. “DJ EMLO” could always get the party grooving. He loved using music to bring joy to people’s lives. During his long and brave battle with cancer, Emery always stayed positive. If he could play a song for us today, it might be Rhianna’s “Please Don’t Stop the Music.”
Emery was preceded in death by his father Clifton, and is survived by his wife Katie, his sons Kai and Miles, his mother Etta, his brother Tim, his nieces and nephews Shanice, Shania, Isiah, Grace, and James, his chosen family Crystal General, and many more extended family members who he loved dearly. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Emery will always live on in the hearts of all who love him.
In memory of Emery, his family welcomes donations to The Center for Black Health & Equity http://centerforblackhealth.org or The Colon Cancer Foundation http://coloncancerfoundation.org

Rest in peace. Brother. We had some good times
I am now a married woman with 4 grown children of my own and I know the joys and struggles of being a mom. Mrs. McCombs was a very dedicated, loving mother and she did a wonderful job with her children. I remember a parent-teacher conference the two of us had which left me with that impression of her. Emery was blessed!
