Emmi M. Force

October 2, 1931 ~ November 26, 2022
Our beautiful mom, Emmi, was born on October 2, 1931 here in America. The youngest child of Anna and Karl Mend ,she followed in the footsteps of her siblings, Elfriede Mend Vollbehr Zavala, Herman Mend and Hans (John) Mend, who were born in Germany. She grew up in Franklin Square, NY and as a teenager found employment with The New York Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. A very handsome Taxi driver picked her up one night after work in his cab, and he later became her husband (Terrence Force) in 1952 with four children following soon after.
First was Raymond Charles, followed by Gary Stephen, Colleen Ann, and Glenn Michael.
Her unmistakable greatest joy was her children, her intense love of animals, especially her beloved and numerous cats. Emmi had three additional passions, one being her interest in the history of the Civil War, where she was a collector of memorabilia, and a member of the North Shore Civil War Roundtable that travelled to many different battle sites. Two, she was a very benevolent contributor to numerous charities supporting the welfare of animals, of which wolves, cats, and tigers were her favorite.
Lastly, she was a member of a fellowship that strived to help people with addictions. She made countless friends and acquaintances through her involvement and that brought her much joy.
Her sense of humor was infectious and she could make anyone laugh, especially when she knew they needed to. One could always find her in a local diner having anything from sauerbraten to eggs over easy, and of course paired with her beloved tea with Sweet~n~Low.
When Emmi “ left the planet” as she used to say, she had her children by her side, her much loved caregiver, Jackie and her sweet beloved cat, Jack. She leaves behind her children, sons, Gary Force and Glenn Force, and her daughter Colleen Force, and was met at heavens gate by her oldest son Rev.Raymond Force. She is grandmother, aka “BBG” to ten grandchildren, Erin Mullen, Tara (Tim) Amick, Carrie (John) Marriott, Paul Force, Brittany (Mike) Vasey, and Justin (Miriam) Keher, Bronwyn (Sam Wilfong) Force, Dallas (Rich Urraro) Cozine, Dylan (Haley Califano) Haefling, and Madison (Vanessa Waldner) Haefling. She was also loving Great Grand mother to 20 great grand children.
If there is one lesson Emmi left us with, it’s the importance of kindness, understanding and forgiveness, which she always topped off with a huge hug.
Hug someone every day, even a stranger, you never know who needs it, and it’s promised Emmi’s spirit will be there to make them smile…..and so will she.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
Rest in Peace Emmi, you will always be in my heart.
We go back a long way, and the Force family lives in my heart FOREVER!
As I am member of the North Shore Civil War Roundtable, please accept my family’s condolences for your loss.
I had known Emmi for over 20 years. I started as a pet sitter when she went away and we quickly became friends. We both shared a love for animals especially cats. Through the many years we shared a lot of good times. Like when she drove all the way to Maine to go to my wedding. She got lost in the dark but she still made it! She was a wonderful lady. Always caring, helping, smiling. I just really loved her. I am so heartbroken that she has left us. But I will hold dear the lessons that she taught me about life and how to be a good person. My husband Frank and I will miss her so much.
Family, friends, Civil War history, and laughter, lots of laughter. What better way to spend one’s life. You will be missed.
I was not there today.BBG was an inspiration
for me and I’ll always have her in my prayers.
Heaven better be ready for her
She’s gonna shake you up up there.
I’ll always love her. God Bless all my children
through Colleen and all my other children through Christ the Lord Amen.
You touched the hearts of anyone you ever met, and it spread like wildfire. We are all better people because of you. The world will certainly miss your wisdom, your humor, and those bear hugs of pure joy, but we will remember you always.
Not a day will pass without telling a story about you, or saying a catchphrase like “when I leave the planet”, “do what’s best for you” and my favorite “exactly exactly”.
This is not goodbye, it is “see ya later”……but I will be ok…”because I knew you, I have been changed for good”
I love you beyond the stars with hugs as big as the moon…and will always need you. Rest In Peace Mom ♥️🦋
