Loretta Mary Riley, born on February 21, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, peacefully passed away on October 17, 2023. She was the daughter of Joseph and Gertrude Nicols and shared her early years with her twin sister, Lorraine, and her older brother, Joseph.
In 1958, Loretta embarked on a journey of love and devotion when she married the love of her life, James Riley. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising five wonderful children for 56 years until James’ passing in 2013. Loretta’s role as a mother was not just a title but a reflection of her boundless love and dedication. She was more than just a mother; she was a cherished Nana to her grandchildren, a great-grandmother, a beloved aunt, and a true friend.
Loretta’s greatest passion in life was her family. She invested her heart and soul in supporting and loving them every single day. Her unwavering commitment and warm spirit left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her.
Loretta is survived by her loving children, Timothy, Mary Ellen (Tom), Daniel (Lyn), Patty (Paul), and John (Bobbi). Her legacy also extends through her 12 adoring grandchildren: Jennifer (Seann), Kyle, Allison (Andrew), PJ (Carolan), Scott, Jesse, Joseph (Lauren), Stacy, Julie, Emily, Jake, and Mikayla. She was further blessed with three great-grandchildren: Kyla, Kanoa, and Hazel.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at the Branch Funeral Home, 190 E. Main St., Smithtown, NY 11787, on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held to celebrate Loretta’s life on Monday, October 23, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Church in Smithtown, commencing at 9:45 AM. Following the Mass, Loretta will be laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery.
Loretta’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and all those whose lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering devotion. May she rest in eternal peace.
