Philip John Buckles, born on March 12, 1948, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.
Philip is survived by his devoted wife, Rita Buckles; his cherished daughter, Lauren Buckles, and son-in-law, Ben Boivin; his adored grandson, Beck Boivin; and his loving sisters, Pat and Susan Buckles. He was a proud Purple Heart recipient, having served in the Vietnam War, and later dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community as a Sergeant in the New York Police Department.
An entrepreneur at heart, Philip thrived in the world of business, but it was his love for family and friends that defined him. He found joy in sharing meals at Italian restaurants, basking in the sun with a good book, and enjoying the timeless music of Tony Bennett and the Rat Pack. Philip had a unique ability to bring people together, often filling the room with his infectious laughter and warm spirit.
He was admired and respected by all who knew him, a loyal friend and family member who always prioritized those he loved. One of his favorite quotes, “If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun,” perfectly encapsulated his joyful approach to life.
Philip will be deeply missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, in Miller Place, NY. Details below.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in Philip’s honor.
