Thank you for everything Coach Cawley. The memories and lessons that you built with me, as well as the Port Jeff cross-country team are ones that I will cherish and remember for a lifetime.
You were always the coolest, most laid-back person in the room…such an original.
Thanks for always being so kind, funny and friendly. You truly meant a lot to so many people, and could teach a few about class and manners.
Thanks for helping my kids become true science geeks; it has helped them flourish!
And thanks for taking my son and his friends to see the Star Trek reboot in his senior year. You were the coolest teacher ever. Will never forget you!
Love and condolences to your family.❤️❤️
We love you, Rod <3
My heart goes out to Rod’s family. I have so many memories: Floats and hot dog stands. Jr proms and track events. Every day lunches in the science office with iguana food. The good old days at ELVHS! Rod was a true legend of his time. He will be remembered and missed by so many.
A kind peaceful teacher and colleague who left way too soon. I’m praying for Rod’s terrific family and loved ones at this time.
My deepest sympathies for Rod’s family.
We worked together for many years at ELVHS and I can say that he helped to make Port Jeff HS a special place.
Thoughts and prayers go out to support all the family and friends for the sad passing of Rod.
So sorry to hear of Mr. Cawley’s passing! He was my sophomore year homeroom teacher at TMLA ’81-’82. I have fond memories of his calm, laid back demeanor. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
I have fond memories of Rod. May he rest in eternal peace. My prayers go out to Barbara and the Cawley family.
So sorry to hear the passing of Mr. Cawley! He was my teacher at TMLA! I have great memories of the class as well as the rest of the Class of ‘85. Sending prayers of comfort to his family and friends.
Rest in peace Rod. Wishing Barbara and family a sense of comfort and happiness knowing how many lives he touched in the classroom and on the field at ELVHS.
So sorry, Ms. Clooney, to hear of Mr. Cawley’s passing. My thoughts are with you.
TMLA ’84
I had Mr. Cawley for Science at Port Jeff, he was such a great guy and one I still think about 35 years later. My group was always in trouble in his zoology class…who didn’t clean the cage? “Loughren, Walker, Babbits, Makowski!” It was always us. 😬
I am so grateful to be able to count Rod Cawley as a colleague and a friend. He was an inspiration to so many people…his students, his colleagues and his athletes. During one of our last conversations, he reminded me that we had been friends for 40 years. Those 40 years ended much too soon but they will always be a source of happy memories for me.
So sad to hear. Ms Cloonan, may you find peace and solace in your loss. You both made an impact to TMLA girls! 💕’86
It has been a year since Rod’s passing and I still think of him often. He was a great man and I am proud to have had him as a friend for so many years. Even to the end, he never complained and showed up at my husband, Phil’s funeral. I will never forget the moment I saw him there and of all the great memories we shared in his beautiful yard each summer. You were a great guy. Rest in peace.
I’ll never forget Rod explaining in our chemistry class that electrons barely contribute to the weight of an atom. He described this as “Melissa would be the same weight with or without her clothes, they don’t add significant weight to her overall weight.” It was disgusting, and 2 decades later, I think about that comment so often. Don’t glorify people who sexualize children.
