Biography of Alice M. Dwyer

Alice Marie Herz was born on January 10, 1936 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in the Inwood section of Manhattan. She grew up in Flushing, Queens and graduated from Bayside High School in the Spring of 1954. Her attractive profile came honestly: on her father’s side of the family, she is related to Grace Kelly!
On November 13, 1954 Alice married the love of her life, Frank J. Dwyer. They began married life in Bayside and had six children: Francis, Anne, John, Joan, Mary and Thomas. In between the busy life of keeping house for her large family, Alice worked in grocery stores and at a neighborhood country club as a short order cook. As her children grew up, married and started families of their own, Alice became the Matriarch of a family that boasts 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
When her husband’s career ended at retirement, Alice and Frank sold their Bayside home and fulfilled their life-long dream to live in the country. They moved to Catskill in 1993 and enjoyed almost 30 wonderful years there together. Alice fed every animal on their 5 acres of land and loved buying from the local farmers and other merchants in the Hudson Valley. Alice became a Eucharistic Minister at her local Catholic Church and made new friends in the community.
Alice remained at her Catskill home for a couple of years after her husband passed in 2021 and then moved to Long Island. She spent her final years at Sunrise Senior Living in East Setauket, once again gathering a new set of friends and enjoying the many outings and activities offered by the community. She is missed by a large family and circle of friends.
