Angela “Angie” E. Mingione
November 17 1926 February 12, 2026
Angela E. Mingione passed away peacefully at the age of 99. We remember Angie not with broken hearts, but with grateful hearts. While Angela was her given name, she was known to all as Angie. And as the years went by, she earned another name — Wonder Woman. She could spin on a dime. Whether it was cooking for twenty, sewing a hem, entertaining or serving as a role model, as a working mother in the 1950s, she did it all — and she did it spectacularly. Angie was born in the United States to Maria and Carmelo Auditore, first-generation Americans from Italy. She was the beloved sister of Nina Auditore Griffo.
In 1947, Angie married John Mingione, beginning a devoted 52-year marriage. John proudly served in the NYPD Mounted Unit. As the story goes, Angie was a designer milliner at Saks 5th Avenue. There she befriended Connie, who invited Angie to have lunch with her and her brother John. She accepted the lunch offer where she met Connie’s brother John during his lunch break in Central Park. Angie made an unusually quick decision that day — she decided she was going to marry John. And she did.
Their wedding in 1947 Harlem was what was known as a “football wedding,” a 1940s Italian-American tradition in New York City where guests moved joyfully throughout the hall in celebration. Though times were simple, Angie brought her own elegance to the day, wearing a gown she purchased from Saks Fifth Avenue.
Angie worked long before it was fashionable and necessary for women to work. Although she began her career at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City, she later found her true calling in cosmetics. There she became a star for Lancôme and Elizabeth Arden. Her dedication and excellence were so remarkable that she received a personal call on Christmas Eve from Elizabeth Arden in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments.
She was the proud mother of five children, and through them, her legacy grew to include 31 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Angie’s family brought her immeasurable joy. A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Angie lived her beliefs every day. She was a devoted volunteer with the Girl Scouts of America, Our Lady of Loretto Parish in Hempstead, and her beloved St. Thomas More Church in Hauppauge. She prayed the rosary every day without fail.
Her faith and strength carried her through life’s greatest challenges, including surviving cancer twice. She was invited to speak at a fundraising event for Memorial Sloan Kettering at the Chappaqua Country Club. She humbly and graciously shared her journey. With the most sincere gratitude, she thanked the doctors, nurses, researchers, and staff who cared for her. She delivered her message with dignity and courage — and it ended in rapturous applause.
Angie was known for her warmth, her humor, and her unmistakable presence in the kitchen — a place she lovingly called her office. She was an incredible cook, creating unforgettable meals alongside her mother, while her father proudly served as the “sous chef.” In later years, she often asked,
“Doesn’t anyone cook anymore?!” And the answer was always, “No, Mom… no one cooks anymore.”
Above all, Angie was a woman of strength, love, faith, and family — a true Wonder Woman whose spirit will live on in all of us. Angela Auditore Mingione passed at 3:30 a.m. on February 12, at home — her final wish, lovingly granted.
Rest in peace, Mom.
Fly high with the angels, and keep us safe under God’s saving grace.

We love you and will miss you dearly.
Angie was a fantastic friend to my parents. She got my mom involved working on baptism bibs and my dad hooked on her crumb cake.
To her family, all my siblings send you prayers and the reminder that when you miss her, know that she was loved by many. She’ll be remembered as a strong, caring woman. A friend in good times and bad. And if my father has any influence, she’ll be cooking crumb cake in heaven.
Sincere condolences for one of the most beautiful woman I knew. She was a very special lady who raised a beautiful family with her heart and soul.
