  8. Tony Leone Remembered
    April 12, 2021

    Dear Esther & Family,

I cannot tell you how saddened I was on Friday afternoon, April 9, 2021 when my brother Leo called me with the sad news that Tony had passed away from complications due to hernia surgery.
Please accept my sympathy and prayers for yourself, your children and grandchildren and to Tony’s sister, Jennie Federico.
After my brother Leo’s phone call, memories of our early teen years on 103rd Street in Ozone Park came to mind. How Leo, Tony and I would hang out in front of our house, how we would go bowling on Sunday afternoons or go to a Sunday afternoon movie together. I recall how Tony would also work on my father’s ice and coal truck.
As we were together so often, it seemed like Tony became an adopted brother to Leo and me.
I recall also that Mrs. Leone asked Tony to drop out of high school in order to bring in money for the family. What a blessing it was that Charlie, the butcher on 101st Avenue near 96th Street in Ozone Park, took Tony under his wing and taught Tony the butcher trade.
Tony became such a good butcher that he eventually bought Charlies business when Charlie retired. After that Tony became a successful butcher by trade as he moved on in life.
Such are some memories our childhood friendship and how our early years intertwined together. Above all, Tony was a good man, a faithful loving spouse to you Esther, a wonderful father to your three daughters and a proud grandfather.
Tony’s religion may not have been expressed by Church attendance, but it lived in his heart and by way he lived his life and the way he treated family and friends. I feel that God is more than pleased with Tony’s life and that Tony now rests in the eternal peace of our loving God.
Esther and family, please reflect on the goodness of Tony’s
life with you for 88 years. We mourn his passing. We miss his presence among us. But we rejoice that he is at peace with our loving Father. We are grateful for his good, good life that he shared with us.
    Love,

    Pat Gisondo
    AKA Brother Dominic Gisondo
