Barbara Ann Rado

barbara rado
Barbara Ann Rado was born on July 29,1940 in New Rochelle, NY. Her parents Charles and Ann Schoenherr, were lovingly known to most as Pop and Nana. Barbara was one of six children. She had 3 brothers, Charles Arthur, John and 2 sisters, Marianne and Louise. Barbara was the proud parent of 5 children; Deborah, Philip, Patricia, Arlene and Paul. She was blessed with 20 grandchildren to spoil and one great grandchild to really spoil. Barbara worked in Sears for over 30 years at Smithaven Mall. Shortly after retiring, she joined the Rocky Point School District as an aid, which she loved, and was there for over 10 years. Barbara loved to travel. Cruising was something she did best, along with spending endless hours at the beach reading a good book. Barbara loved cooking, planning holiday get togethers and most of all spending time with her family. Barbara was a straight shooter and she would tell you exactly how it was in a way that no one else could. She believed everyone should work hard, nothing in life was free and life wasn't fair; which we all know today more than ever. Barbara was full of life and always ready for the next adventure. She gave her children so much and her only request in return was 'stay close to one another '. Barbara Ann Rado passed away August 30, 2016 leaving us all too soon. She has left shoes to big to fill by anyone.

  1. Dear Phil, Lisa, Philly and Ryan,We are so sorry that we won’t be able to attend Barbara’s wake, but please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Phil, working with ‘Babs’ for the past twelve years was a blast! I loved her dry sense of humor and everyone gravitated to her on a daily basis just to talk and receive her words of wisdom. She was a kind hearted, generous soul although she would never admit to that! She loved her family and grand children and spoke about all of you with pride — we knew all by name. I am heartbroken that I won’t see her everyday but I know her spirit and our memories will be present in the halls of JAE. Love, Anne, Lenny & Tom Q

  2. Dear Grandma, May you rest in peace. I am so thankful for all of the time we spent together, and all of the support you gave me. Even hundreds of miles away, you were always thinking of me and making the effort to keep in touch. I will cherish every Christmas, birthday, Halloween, valentines, etc. card you got me. Every Christmas eve you would put in so much effort and time into making a great Christmas Eve party for the entire family. You are the biggest supporter of my career with law enforcement, and life, and it means the world to me. I wish we could have spent more time together after we moved down to Florida. I love you so much Grandma, Rest in Peace <3

My heart aches without you here, but I know you are watching down on all of us, proud of who we have become and all that’s left to come. I was blessed with not only an amazing grandmother but with a best friend. This isn’t a goodbye, but a see you later. Rest easy my angel≡ƒæ╝∩┐╜≡ƒÆò I love you to the heaven and back

  6. It still hasn’t set in and I don’t think it will for a while that you are no longer with us. It still hasn’t set in that I won’t be receiving a text message from you bright and early of a cute picture relating to the holiday for that particular day. Or that I won’t be getting a call from you on my birthday of you singing. There are so many things that I am going to miss with you not being around. Right now my heart is so heavy but I have so many great memories of you that I will never forget. My favorites come from our trips to Cape Cod. ( Me putting gummy worms on your shoulder while you were driving to try and scare you, to our endless Taco Buffet and Fried Ice-cream and we can’t forget the card games where gambling was always involved while you drank your 7&7s and I drank my Shirley Temples). Barbs me and you had a special bond one that I will always cherish and never forget. I am proud to call you my grandma. I can’t wait to share all the memories of you with Luke as he grows older. He will always remember his great-grandma as being an extraordinary woman with a heart of gold and who would always put her family first. We love you and will miss you so much thank you for being you.

  7. Grandma, aka the greatest cruiser on the east coast, I want to say thank you. Thank you for all you have done for me and everyone else in this family. This family wouldn’t be what it is today without you. You taught us so many life lessons and kept us all in check, and when I say ΓÇ£all∩┐╜ I mean all 5 of your kids (who all grew up to be amazing parents), 20+ grandkids, 1 great-grandchild, all those kids at school, LouLou, and so many more. You were very special to each and every one of us. You would always be the first call on a birthday and the first text on a holiday. Christmas Eve is something I will never forget. You spoiled us all and it was always a blast to get together with the whole family. Thank you for coming to my baseball and football games and waiting for hours for me while I was in the Cape Cod sports card store. I could write a book with all the Cape Cod memories we have. You are something special and you really inspired me. I know you are up in Heaven looking down on all of us. Thank you for everything and rest in peace. I love you Grandma.

  8. BarbaraBest Mother in law anyone can ask for. I am so blessed to be a part of this family. You have raised five beautiful and successful children on your own. Barbara you are and always will be the rock to this family. You always made the holidays great memories and they will never be forgotten and you will never be forgotten. I am truly going to miss all the laughs and smiles we had. Who is Phil going to call and have laughs on the phone with certainly not me lol. It is going to be hard to move on but we know you would want us to that is the beautiful nature about you. Most of all thank you for my husband. I love you and miss you already.

  9. Barb , It was an honor for me to have you as my Mother In Law. It was a privilege for me to have 6 of your Grandchildren, and with heartfelt thanks to allow me to marry your ‘baby’ Paul and be part of your wonderful family. With the loss of my birth mother at 22 yrs old , it has been you whom I have watched and learned from for the past 23 years. The most important thing I take away from you is how much you absolutely loved your children. This was not only shown to me by what you would do for them but how they all would do anything for you …from Eileenie Love you

  10. I will miss you Barbara, you were the best neighbor! I will never forget how we met, thru the window when your roof collapsed and I was scared you were under all that snow! You were fun to talk to, when I ran over to tell you I became a Grandmother and you told me you had 22!! I nearly fainted…lol….I will truly miss you, your smile and those amazing beautiful eyes!! Rest Easy my friend…….Love Carrie

  11. Barbs it was just last Tuesday that I saw you. That was the day you discovered Snapchat filters, and you asked me to do one with you and send it to mom. You loved every filter, but the dog one was your favorite. Words cannot describe how much I’m going to miss you. I will cherish all the memories we share with those trips to cape cod (the best trip was when you told me, Lauren and Emily to say hi to the red man across the street.. It was a fire extinguisher) our family parties, you just coming over to go in the pool and the sleep overs at your house (with that famous radio playing). Barbara you were an amazing mother and grandmother/great grandmother. You Were the strongest person I’ve ever known. Thank you for being my number one supporter with my decision to enlist in the Navy. You were the first one I told, and you were so happy for me You had my back throughout the whole entire process, and I know you will be with me every step of the way. I love you so much barbs, thank you for everything.

  14. Barbs, Reading your last text to me that you had just gotten back from our favorite place, Miami & you had a great time. You wished me a safe trip as I was headed there for my vacation. You were my friend, you called me when I was sick, you bought every cheerleading raffle & fundraiser, brought me boxes of taffy, gave me books to read, told me to knit, gave me a frog and always called me Matilda!! You were the bright star in the cafeteria! You loved and took care of all your allergy kids and you helped me take care of my small group, helping me feed them. I’m going to look over to you table & chair and you will always be sitting there in my heart & memory. It was a honor working with you and calling you my friend.

  21. To my dear friend Debbie Stewart and her loving family: Sending prayers with healing thoughts your way. May your grief and mourning be surrounded by your wonderful memories of this great lady.

  22. Grandma,To me you were more then just my grandmother you were my best friend. You were an amazing mother to your five children who you taught to be outstanding individuals and role models to their own children. You were especially an amazing grandmother to your 20 grandchildren who you taught many life lessons too along the way. Along our journey we have had a lot of memories, from the time Phil,Ryan and I were laughing so hard when we heard you snoring we woke you up and got you mad while spending the night at Lou Lou’s house to just last week when you came over for lunch and we talked about life. I’m going to miss receiving holiday text messages from you and I’m going to miss you singing happy birthday to me on the phone when I would wake up. There are no words that can describe how much I am going to miss seeing you smile, hearing your voice or hearing your car horn beep when you would come over but I know you will be looking down on me making sure I’m okay. I wish I could just give you one last hug and a kiss and tell you I love you but I know your love for me will always be in my heart and everyday that get up I will make you proud of the person that I will become. I love you but It’s not goodbye Grandma it’s just until next time ≡ƒÆò≡ƒÆò

  23. My heartfelt sympathy to Barbara’s family and friends. To lose someone with so much left to share with the world is terribly difficult. May all of you find comfort in your wonderful memories, as well as God’s promise of a resurrection. Jesus said: ‘I am the resurrection and the life.’ (John 11:25,26)These words give us hope for the future, knowing that through Jesus Christ we have the sure hope of being reunited with our loved ones again, happy and healthy. (John 5:21,28,29)Warm Christian love.
