Catherine Magito (1940-2026)

Catherine Magito, 85, of Ridge, New York, passed away on Sunday March 8th 2026.

She was born in New York, New York to Harry and Helen Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Magito, a U.S Army Veteran. Together they raised a beautiful family, including four daughters, Margaret (Chip) Bzdewka, Darlene (John) McLaughlin, Barbara (Jerry) Maio, and Debbie (Kyriacos) Diakou. She was known as “Cathy” to those who loved her and “Granny” to her eleven grandkids, CJ, Brian, Callie, Erin, Eraklis, Catherine, Collin, Anna, Olivia, Anthony, and Constantinos, and two great grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher. Her beloved chihuahua, “Mama”, was by her side for seven years.

Cathy enjoyed antiquing, Kenny Rogers, country living magazines, and trips to the wineries. She will always be remembered for her famous chicken noodle soup recipe. She enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, and always offered her quick-witted advice. Her classic line, “I’ll give you a reason to cry” (which she often did!). She will always break a smile in our hearts.

Guestbook

  1. candleMy deepest sympathies to the Magitio McLaughlin family. Your mothers legacy will live on in the wonderful family she leaves behind. You all are a testament to the closeness and love she has instilled in all of you! God bless!!

  2. candleOh how lovely that picture is and what a beautiful memory. Sending blessings and prayers for the entire Magito family.

  3. My deepest sympathies to all the Family. I remember when I was young Mom Dad and I would go to your house almost every Christmas (as well as other times). It always seemed to snow that night and I would be watching It’s a Wonderful Life. It always made me feel so warm inside. Let’s not forget the Cupcakes she made every time I was there, to this day my friends still call me the “Cupcake Queen”.

  4. candleCathy was always warm and welcoming whenever the family got together. I will remember her smile, enjoyment of being with everyone, and how much she doted on Mama, her little dog who never left her side. To her daughters, grandchildren, and family, may your memories keep you smiling. She’ll remain in your hearts and lives forever. Our prayers are with you.
