DORIS J. REID (1923-2017)Doris Jean Reid (nee Vurgason), age 93, lifelong resident of New York(formerly of Bay Ridge in Brooklyn and Bellmore, Long Island)passed peacefully on September 2, 2017. Devoted daughter of thelate Alice Cecilia (Dorney) and Franklin Albert Vurgason. BornTuesday, October 23rd, 1923 in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn.Cherished younger sister of the late Beatrice J. Vurgason. Agraduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Doris married John HenryReid at the Sacred Hearts of Mary and Jesus Catholic Church onJune 16, 1950, who preceded her in death in 2010 after 60 yearsof marriage. Loving mother of John Henry (Dorthy) Reid of St.Augustine, FL; Marialice (Robert) Krauss of St. James, NY;William (Teresa) Reid of Naperville, IL; and the late FranklinAlbert Reid. Adored grandmother of Christopher, Gregory(Renee), and Julianne Krauss; Jennifer Beatrice, Michael,Evangeline, Alice Cecilia, and Grace Beatrice Reid. Dear sisterin-law to the late Howard (Evelyn) Reid and fond aunt of SusanMuncy, John Steven and Kevin Reid. Long term parishioner andschool parent at St. Barnabas parish, and dedicated docent andinterpreter at Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Local visitationand service preceded burial at Calverton National Cemetery inWading River, NY alongside her beloved husband, a WWIIveteran.
