Born in: Brooklyn, New York
Resided in: Ridge, New York

In the early morning hours of Friday, January 12, 2024, Dorothy Enright passed away, surrounded by and in the arms of her loving family.

Dorothy was a wife to the love of her life, the late Francis Enright, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many.
She was born on August 27, 1929 in Ridgedale, NY to Mary and George Schulten and grew up with her late brother George and late sister Claire.

Devoted mother of Kathleen Sherriff (Dan Sherriff) Maureen Reilly, Colleen West (Steve Levy) and Loreen Enright, grandmother of, Shannon, Erin, Lindsey, Allison, Devin and Joshua and great grandmother of Robert, Abigail, Jonathan, Shelby, Grace, Finley, Reilly, Oliver.

Dorothy was affectionately known as Dotty to her friends. In the early years of her life, she loved her career serving as the assistant to Smithtown Supervisor Paul Fitzpatrick and personal secretary to County Executive John Klein.

After graduating High School she went on to attend business school and landed a job in Manhattan working for American Airlines.

One day on the platform of the Long Island Rail Road, Dotty missed her train on the way to work. While waiting for the next train, she caught the eye of the dashing Frank Enright.
He smiled at her and she had a feeling about him. The next morning, she deliberately missed her train so that she would see him again. He watched her miss her train and said hello. That moment was the beginning of a 50 year magical relationship.
They married, started their family in Massapequa and eventually moved to Smithtown where they enjoyed traveling, golfing, going to the beach and raising their four daughters until the early 80’s.

Dotty and Frank happily retired and settled as one of the first residents of Leisure Glen in Ridge, NY.
They took joy in becoming involved in the many wonderful activities and social aspects of their new community where they cultivated wonderful lifelong friendships.

Dotty had amazing computer skills which she used to keep the community informed as the historian and editor of the Gazette community monthly newspaper. Her commitment to this day continues to be appreciated by all.

Dotty loved playing cards with her dear friends and continued to meet weekly right up until her passing.

The greatest joy in life to Dotty was her family. She cherished and loved being with and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The Lord reunited Dotty with her beloved husband Francis on his 100th birthday in heaven.

What a beautiful birthday gift to be dancing together again!

Guestbook

  1. candleThank you for the most loving, thoughtful, and devoted Grandma and Gigi to us and our children. We love you forever and will miss you everyday. You are an angel with Grandpa now watching over us.

  2. candleA most humble & giving woman whose smile would warm anyone she met, whether she knew you or not. Strong in her faith, she met her health challenges over the years & continued to embrace life in every way she could. Enjoyed when she shared stories of her devoted family …. the legacy she shares with her beloved husband Frank. A match made in heaven where they now reunite. God bless you, Dottie …you will be missed but will remain in our hearts.

  3. We add our admiration and appreciation of a wonderful relative and kind member of the human family.

Chris Poehlmann (nephew of Dottie’s cousin May Petrucelly) and Janice Bonora

  4. Mom, I will miss you every day. I know you are with dad, all your family and friends in heaven and this brings me peace. I feel you and love you forever and ever.

    Love Lori
