Emma Delia, Obituary, July 19, 1930 – February 10, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of Emma Delia announces her passing on Monday, February 10, 2025 at the age of 94 in Smithtown, New York.
Born on July 19, 1930 in Queens, New York, to Margaret and Hugo Ghiringhelli, Emma was the beloved sister to a family of four brothers. She graduated from Newfield High School and later began working at Con Edison, where she met her beloved husband, Pat J. Delia. They were married on July 25, 1954 and were married for over 70 years. They initially settled in Huntington Station, New York. As their family grew, they relocated to Smithtown, New York where Emma would reside in a home she loved for 62 years.
Emma dedicated over 30 years working in the Smithtown School District, including Smithtown High School East, where her compassion, warmth, and loving spirit touched countless lives of students. A gifted painter, she drew inspiration from the calming beauty of nature—most notably the shore and forest trails where she loved to walk with her dogs, Dotsy and Dolly, and children. Emma also sang in the choir at Saint Patrick’s in Smithtown, passing on a profound love of music to her children and grandchildren.
Her greatest joy by far was being surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband Pat J. Delia, children Karen Cotten (Robert), Michael (Jonathan Cleveland), Pat Delia, and son-in-law Chuck Curiano. She has five incredible grandchildren; Jennifer, David, Matthew, Benjamin, and Emma; and two great-grandchildren—Avery and Ayla. She is preceded in death by her beautiful daughters Joette Curiano, Lori Kanestrin, and daughter-in-law Victoria Delia.
Admired for her grace, gentle spirit and steadfast faith, Emma was known to never utter a harsh word about anyone or anything.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.

  1. candleSo very sorry to hear about Mrs. Delia. I have many fond childhood memories of her. She was a wonderful lady, quick to smile and always had time for piling us into her car to go to the beach. Rest in peace… my sincere condolences to the family.

  2. We have lost a kind, loving and humor-filled spirit. Emma was one of those gals that was very funny and didn’t know it. The best kind for sure! We are so glad that she has joined her two beautiful daughters in God’s grace-filled space. We are sure she will always remain close by to her daughter Karen and sons Michael & Pat. All our love, Helene & Bill Kelly

  3. A life well lived by a wonderful soul. Happy you are reunited with Sweetie, Lori and Victoria. Rest in peace Mom.

  4. With much love, sincere condolences, and many, many fond memories of Aunt Emma,
    Nephew and Cousin Joe (Joey)

  5. Such a sweet lovely lady. It was great to see you and Pat together, so loving and attentive with each other. We’ll miss your smile and your presence at the Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro Lodge.

  6. Our sincere condolences to the entire family. May she live on your hearts, in your memories of all that you have shared.
    much Love

  7. Pat and family, I was so saddened to hear of Emma’s passing. She will be greatly missed. I know you will have many wonderful memories to carry you through this difficult time. I will never forget Emma’s wonderful smile. I am fortunate to have laughed and chatted with her many Mondays. You’re in my thoughts and prayers.

  8. Sincere condolences to the Delia family — our neighbors next door for 34 years — always a warm smile and a kind spirit — Rest in Peace
