George Lee Bonta

george bonta

January 19, 1934 ~ October 10, 2022

Born in: Washington, DC
Resided in: Smithtown, NY

George Lee Bonta was a loving husband to Mary for 66 years. He was Dad to Nancy, Richard, and Catherine; grandfather to Joshua, Christian, Tiana, and James; Father-in-law to Donna Robert, and David. George, nicknamed “Andy,” (don’t ask, we don’t know), served two years in the US armed forces during the Korean conflict. He was a retired lieutenant in the New York City Fire Department, something we are all very proud of, but that he seldom spoke of. He was born in Washington DC, raised in Toledo Ohio, raised his family in Brentwood, and was living in Smithtown most recently. George/Andy loved, and was an expert, in old Hollywood movies (Random Harvest, anyone?). He loved the game of golf, playing it for many years, and then later watching it. Andy also enjoyed playing cards, poker in particular, as well as a good game of chess. He loved animals and helped rescue a few dogs and cats in his time. Everyone who knew him knew he had a cutting sense of humor and was certainly a force to be reckoned with. He will be greatly missed, and always loved, by his family and friends.

Guestbook

  1. Andy always an educated gentleman, despite being in bed without being able to get up on his own, he never forgot education. I am pleased to have met a great man at the service of the community, with a great heart which stopped beating in my hand, the feeling that he left in peace was an honor for me, his tranquility is now infinite, surely he is resting in peace. Andy the universe is yours! 🙏🏼
