Hiroko Weiner

Hiroko Y. Weiner died early Tuesday morning, February 20, 2018, at her home in Huntington Station, N.Y. A Japanese native, Hiroko was born on April 26, 1929, in Keelung, Formosa (now Taiwan) and grew up in Fukuoka, Japan, the fourth of five children born to Gisuke Yokoo and Kono (Shingo) Yokoo. After World War II, Hiroko worked at Ashiya Air Base, where she met and married Leon B. Weiner. Following her husband's death in 1963, Hiroko became a naturalized U.S. citizen and worked at the South Huntington Public Library, retiring after more than 35 years of service. She enjoyed giving cooking lessons, and was a skilled seamstress and avid gardener.Hiroko is survived by her sister Shigeri Miura; daughter Ann (John) DeBossu; sons Dave (Helen) Weiner and Don (Laura) Weiner; and grandchildren Sabrina Weiss, Daniel Weiner, Jesse Weiner, Jordana Weiner, and Charlotte DeBossu.Visitation will be held Monday, February 26, 2018, from 9:30am - 10:30am at Branch Funeral Home, 190 East Main Street, Smithtown, NY.
