Horace Julian (HJ) Campbell, 81, of Clifton Park, NY, passed away peacefully at Stony Brook University Hospital on June 13, 2025. He was born February 24, 1944 in Columbia, SC to parents Julian and Faye Campbell, and was preceded in death by his wife Carol Campbell, brother Ted Campbell, and niece Pam Campbell. In his early years HJ excelled academically, earning an ROTC scholarship from the Navy and eventually a masters degree from the University of South Carolina. He was also an active member of the Freemasons, where he achieved the rank of Mastor Mason, and was awarded the honorary 33rd Degree by the Scottish Rite. After college, HJ received orders to his first ship, where he served honorably in the Vietnam War. He then went on to have a long and distinguished career in the Navy, serving twenty three years and earning the rank of Commander. After retiring from the Navy, HJ fought political corruption for over twenty years as Chief Investigator for the New York State Ethics Commission, until he fully retired. Horace was survived by his children Katheryn (Heather) Fife (Kurt), Laurie Bohlke (William) and Scott Campbell (Jill), along with one nephew, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services will be be private at the convenience of his family.
