  4. Jimmy was always a special person in my life. We were all close to him, he truly is a special person. We had so many good times & when he was at his Sister’s visiting, he would come & see me too, & we would go out to Lunch. He always made people laugh!! I will truly miss him!! My heart goes out to Maria & his family!! 😭😭

  7. I will love our friendship forever. I’ll miss you but also know I’ll be seeing you again Jim.
    And to your wife Maria, may you find comfort in knowing you made him happy everyday! This loss is a shock to many but for you….I imagine unbearable. May God help you to grieve and bring him to you in happy thoughts and dreams.
    May God welcome you Jim as you enter this new realm in the presence of God, peace and joy.
    You touched so many with your heart and good sense. And your wicked sense of humor was always welcomed!
    I’m not sure how those beautiful grand babies you love so much are going to grow up without you!
    I hope you’ll guide them as they grow from your new lofty perch Jim. God has welcomed a very deserving man into Heaven and Heaven is better for it.

  12. I’ve know Jimmy since kindergarten in 1958. We graduated high school together in 1971. I will miss my friend.

  13. Jimmy was an incredibly unique and wonderful friend; very likeable, interesting, warm, kind, caring, smart as a whip, and as honest as they come. I don’t think I know anyone who had as many friends as he did, as well as his innate ability to easily make new ones. I always enjoyed my conversations with him, of events long ago, and those of a contemporary nature.

    I had the good fortune to have known Jim for over 55 years, since 8th grade at East Northport JHS. I was looking forward to getting together for our lunch dates again, which were pretty much cancelled since the onset of Covid in March of 2020. The last time I saw Jim was for lunch at Crab Meadow Beach, in late September of last year.

    As I seem to be saying with increasing frequency lately, having lost two close friends within the course of less than 3 weeks; Sic transit gloria mundi….so passes the glory of the world. Jim, rest in peace my good friend. I will always have very fond memories of you, and I will very much miss you.

  19. candleJim Welsh was the best Postmaster the Smithtown PO ever had. He was kind and fair and I am so glad I had the opportunity to work with him. He made my retirement send off the best by taking the time to attend and saying such kind words. He will always be remembered and missed.

  24. candleTo Maria and family I am sorry for your loss. Jim was a true friend . I moved down to Florida in 2005 Jim always remembered my birthday even though I wasn’t working in New York. When he drove his sister down to Florida he would always call me to get together with fellow clerks and carriers who had moved down too and we would meet for lunch and reminisce. When I went to NY I would always call him and fellow carriers and we would get together for a drink. I am glad we shared drinks one day we will have drinks up there. Take care.

  26. candleJimmy was an amazing man who not only welcomed all of Veronica/John’s friends into his house throughout our childhood, but later was my real estate agent and helped me find my first house to start our own wonderful memories and welcome others. He was truly a great friend and Julia and I appreciate everything he did for us to help us on our journey. I still have the card he got for us, congratulating us on our purchase and is a custom made drawing of our house framed in my room. I will miss you buddy! Rest in peace my friend.

  27. candleI will always remember Jimmy for his kind nature, easy laughter, concern for social responsibility and deep love of his family and friends. He was a true gentleman, and could hold a conversation with insight and conviction. We were childhood friends. In recent years we were lunch buddies along with other friends who shared a bond of friendship and camaraderie when we got together. Extending deepest condolences to Maria, and his beautiful family. The pictures he would post of his grandchildren were always so adorable . His heart was full of love for his family, and his extensive circle of friends. May he Rest In Peace, and live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

  28. I was blessed to have met Jim thirty years ago in the postoffice. Jim would always make me feel like no matter what the challenge things would always work out. His smile, humor and generosity would make anyone feel loved. Jim you have changed my life and my family’s life forever. Even though I feel lost without you here, there is comfort in knowing that someone so special will never be forgotten. Thank you so much for being part of my life, you’ll be in my heart until we meet again. RIP.

  36. I am so sorry to hear my dear friend Jimmy is gone. I’ve known Jimmy since we were both 5 years old and lived across the street and played as kids. I have so many memories playing as kids and growing up over the years. We grew up and still were good friends all these years.
