James Wallace Brittingham, age 90, of Stony Brook, New York formerly of Lewes, Delaware, died March 6, 2025. My dad passed away peacefully this morning. He was born on June 22, 1934 in Lewes Delaware, and he was from a generation of men who believed that love was shown through hard work and sacrifice, and he dedicated his life to providing for his family. As a proud Coast Guard veteran and a LILCO lineman for over 40 years, he worked long days in all kinds of weather to keep the lights on for others. But that wasn't enough for him—he always picked up extra part-time jobs to make sure his eight children (six daughters and two sons) never went without. He worked tirelessly so we could have every opportunity, and he was so proud of all of us. Even with all that hard work, he made time for the things he loved—golf, the Yankees, the Giants, and music. He was an expert whistler, filling the house with tunes, and he had a gift in the kitchen—he made the best ice cream and could fry scrapple to perfection. He had the gift of gab, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. His strength, dedication, and love shaped who we are, and we will carry his lessons with us always. It was a privilege to be able to oversee his care and comfort these past seven months while he lived at the Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook, and I will miss visiting him after work and on the weekends. Rest easy, Dad. You were loved beyond words. James is survived by his loving children, Jane Ellen Bonner Sandusky, Mary Alison Murphy, Regina Schultz, Julie Ann Hennessy, and James William Brittingham. He is also the cherished grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Michael and daughters Susan Shanley and Jill Levine. All arrangements including private cremation have been entrusted to the Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point, New York. Celebration of the Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 344 Main Street, Northport, New York. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Philip Neri Cemetery, East Northport, New York. An online guestbook can be found at www.rockypointfuneralhome.com. . .
