John Patrick Taylor, age 90, of Ridge, New York died Wednesday, September 18, 2024. John was born July 19, 1934 in Eslin County Leitrim, in the Parish of Mohill, Ireland. John was the second youngest of nine children born to William and Margaret Taylor (nee McNulty). His siblings, Mae Nesdale, Eddie, Kathleen McCabe, Billy, Agnes McLoughlin, Rita Wiencko and Rosaleen Miney are deceased. He is survived by his brother Joe. In May 1962, John married June Dryer of Woodside, and settled in Elmhurst, New York. They have three children, Barbara (Pat), Billy (Eddie), and Eileen (Harry). John was the proud Poppy to Jennifer Daly. John started working for the Building Department of New York in 1966, retiring in 1993 as Chief Inspector in the Borough of Manhattan. He was a proud member of the Leitrim Society of New York serving as President, and receiving a Distinguished Service Award and Guest of Honor Award. He also served as President of AOH Father Timothy J. Shanley Division 4, and was Guest of Honor and a Distinguished Service Award recipient. He served as a delegate from Leitrim to the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, and was honored by the parade committee for his many years of service. John and June moved to Ridge, Long Island in 2004. They spent many wonderful winters in Boynton Beach, Florida. He is survived by many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Ireland. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point, New York. Celebration of the mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 am on Monday, September 23, 2024 at St. Mark's RC Church, 105 Randall Road, Shoreham, New York. Burial with military honors will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at the Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point, New York. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Leitrim Society of New York Scholarship fund.
