I just found out that Jon died today. . I am so sad that I will never hear his Norwegian accent, which sounded like my Grandfather’s, always so bright, cheerful and uplifting. I met him when I hit a sailboat for $300 and he helped me put it in working order and bring it home. I could not believe when after a day of really hard work spent trying to loose the center board, he told me he was 82. I so want to be like him when I grow up. Fearless, friendly and fascinating. As usual, when I meet some later in life, I always wishbone had known them longer or when they were younger…but I consider myself very lucky to have had the chance to know him at all.
Dear Carla, Steven and Peter with families, It was very sad to get to know that John has left us. We are thinking of you,who are missing a beloved father, grandfather and father-in-law. John loved you so much, and was immensely proud of you. We are happy to know that he had a wonderful, long life close together with family and friends. John’s relatives in Norway loved to be together with him and his family. We have so many precious memories. This message of condolence is from Else and Eivind, Toko and Kjell, Thorunn and Odd and families with love
I am deeply saddened to learn of Uncle Jon’s passing. Though I’m glad he will be united once again with Aunt Gladys, I will miss hearing stories of his adventures all over the world. I learned so much from Uncle Jon – about history, geography, Norway, my heritage. I will always treasure my memories made with such a wonderful man. My heart is with the Hogden family. Love and hugs ~ Marie

We were saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Hogden when we returned from a trip. I truly enjoyed my conversations with him, especially the last few times we got together, and our brief e-mail correspondences, particularly as they related to Norway and its history as well as Mr. Hogden’s own history. He was a fascinating, engaging individual, and I will surely miss him at our family gatherings. God bless him and his family during this time, and always.
So sorry to hear about John. Thanks for letting me know. He was a great man. My condolences to you and Carla and your family. I know it’s tough to lose a giant like John. He is someone I have always looked up to. He had a positive effect on all he touched (especially when he had a hammer and saw in his hand). May he rest in peace. -Steve Nieroda
