Lieutenant Richard Grice

lieutenant richard grice

March 22, 1973 ~ May 27, 2026

Born in: West Islip, NY
Resided in: Commack, NY

With profound sadness, we share the passing of Richard Grice, Lieutenant in the Suffolk County Police Department. Rich will be dearly missed by his beloved wife and four daughters, who he was devoted to and adored. He also leaves behind his loving parents, mother-in law, father-in-law, four sisters and spouses, four nieces and four nephews, in addition to many uncles, aunts and cousins.

A graduate of Lindenhurst High School, Rich worked as a Town of Babylon lifeguard before embarking on his career as a police officer in the NYPD. He later transferred to the SCPD where he continued his distinguished career in public service and also found great fulfillment working as a Town of Smithtown Park Ranger. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, and his ability to light up a room with his quiet humor will be fondly remembered.

  9. It’s so hard to take in and my heart is broken for you all.

I’m so sorry I can’t be with you at this deeply sad time. Know that you are all in my heart and in my thoughts and sending you so much love and strength from the UK.

  10. Rich, you were such a kind, loving, and caring person. You will be missed tremendously.

  11. candleSuch a tough loss. Richie was one of my favorite friends of all time. We had countless great times together. He had a heart of gold. He was a thoughtful, caring person with a great sense of humor and was always so easy to be around.

Unfortunately, It’s been several years since we last got together in person, and for that I will always have regret now. I know we would have picked up exactly where we left off when we finally did reconnect, and I somehow counted on that.

I will forever miss my great friend, but I will never forget all the great times we shared and his amazing spirit.

RIP, my brother. You will be sorely missed.

  12. candleWe are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through this heart-breaking time.

  13. candle. His kindness, his caring nature, and that wonderful dry humor and easy smile are what I’ll carry with me always. The world was brighter with him in it. Rest easy, Rich

  15. We love you soo much!! You are in our hearts & we are praying for you. Rest in peace Little Richie

  16. I am heartbroken since hearing this news. My love and prayers are with his family.

  17. candleHaving been neighbors since day one, there are so many wonderful memories of growing up together. I fondly remember Sunday boating trips with our families, barbecues, fishing, time spent upstate, and those big, fun family parties at the Grices’.

One memory that has always stayed with me is Richard as a little boy walking into our kitchen while my mother was cooking and asking, “What’s for supper?” To this day, my family still says that to each other and smiles when we do.

Richard was part of so many cherished memories, and I am grateful to have known him throughout the years. My heart is deeply saddened by this loss. Please know that all of the Grice family is in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May your memories of Richard bring you comfort and peace in the days ahead.

  18. I didn’t know Rich, however I did work with his dad in Queens during the late 90’s. Judging by the comments made here, it would appear that Rich’s qualities as a man were handed down from his dad. My sincerest condolences go out to the entire Grice family.

  19. candleI’m so sorry for your loss. Wishing you all peace during this difficult time. My deepest condolences to the Grice family.

  20. Rest in Peace my Brother. It was an honor to have worked with you in the 107pct all those years ago. Prayers for you and your family.
    God Bless. 🙏🏻💙🙏🏻
    Kevin Kramer and family.
