  1. Margaret Steinhoff was an amazing, compassionate, kind and warm hearted woman. She impacted each and every life of whom she met. She was lively and always loved to smile and to dance. She could light up a room. Margaret met Michael in Cherry Grove/Pines in Fire Island. They danced and fell in love. Margaret and Michael had 3 children Natalie, Hannah, and Emily. Margaret provided an amazing childhood for her children and also made sure each and every day was filled with love and laughter. Margaret always went over and above for her children and her family. Margaret has 5 grandchildren named Camryn Carmelo Audrey Caiden and Alia. Margaret’s life was not easy. The road was difficult and windy but she overcame each and every trial and tribulation. Margaret battled lymphoma, multiple surgeries and procedures, and battled congestive heart failure. She was a brave woman, a strong woman and most importantly a courageous woman. Margaret was filled with so much joy and so much life that you could never really tell how truly sick she was. Even until her last breath, she showed bravery and compassion. Margaret loves her family and friends. She asked that we keep her in our hearts and speak of her often. She went in the hands of the Lord and went peacefully. Please feel free to post memories and photos of Margaret as it will be reminders of the great memories shared with her.We appreciate your love and support during this difficult time. Thank you for your condolences.

  2. Margaret and I met in 7th grade, Gelinas JHS. We became fast friends and remained friends for 48 years. There was a significant height difference between us. Margaret was tall and I was barely 5 ft. The first time my Mom saw us together she asked me ‘who is the teacher next to you?’. Margaret and I laughed about that for years! In high school, I hate to admit this publicly, but, Margaret and I cut out of school (quite a bit) when the weather was nice. We would drive to East Patchogue to visit her Grandparents on Durkee Lane. Her Grandma always had a big pot of sauce on the stove, even at 9 a.m., and she would dish us up a big bowl of spaghetti, meatballs, sausage and garlic bread! Then we headed for the beach and took naps on our blankets! Those were the days! I recently remembered, I taught Margaret how to drive on the hills of Poquott and Port Jeff. Definitely helped that I had a 67 Chevy Mailbu that was built like a tank, we were only 16. I remember starting her out at the top of the hill and screaming to her- BRAKE’! WE laughed and laughed non-stop! One week after your Mom met your Dad they invited me to Fire Island. Uncle Joe took us all, landing at Cherry Grove and I believe the name of the dance club was ‘The Monster’. And every time, your parents took over that dance floor and danced the night away! It was amazing to watch them. Truly, a match made in Heaven. Their love and devotion to each other was constant. I am so very grateful that Margaret and Mike lived a true love story. I attended their wedding at their beautiful home on Piper Court, many tears of joy were shed that day by all who attended. The last time I visited your Mom and Dad was a year and 1/2 ago. Ryan and I came up and we met at the diner, never thinking that would be the last time I would see her. I will carry a lifetime of memories of Margaret and I forever. I love you Margaret.

  3. 32 years ago, we bonded and promised to be ‘chosen sisters’. 32 years of family, babies, Mother’s Group, dinners together, a lifetime of talking, laughing, crying, embracing each other’s lives and knitting them into our own. 32 years of silly girls, raising amazing girls, cherishing sparkling grandchildren, and holding each other through the hardest moments of our lives. I am blessed and always have been by the enormous capacity of your love, light and laughter. See you on the other side. I will watch them…promises made, promises kept, until I see you again. I hold you in my heart. I love you x 3…cuz once isn’t enough. Deb

  4. My darling Margaret you are my hero…Your courage in dealing with life’s burdens was an inspiration to all of us who knew you and loved you. Your life however, cannot be told simply by these burdens. Your life story is one that reflects your shining personality and charm. I continually marveled at your ability to remain positive in spite of all of the challenges you faced. The love that you gave to your children, your grandchildren, your best friend, my brother Mike, and the rest of the circle of family and friends is a lesson to all of us on how to lead a meaningful life. Margaret my dear sister of the heart, I will never forget you and you shall be a blessing to all that knew you…rest in peace m darling.

  9. As I pray today for my dear friend and her family, I sit here and think about how lucky I am to have gained a friendship with your daughter. You have raised a loyal, kind, and beautiful person and I have you to thank Margret. You have left such a legacy. These passed few days IΓÇÖve been able to look through videos, pictures and memories that youΓÇÖve left behind so your family will never forget you. It was such a pleasure knowing you at dance classes as youΓÇÖve watched your granddaughters dance their little hearts out. You had such a proud smile on your beautiful face. May you fly high Angel in the sky.
