In Loving Memory of Marguerite Elizabeth Petras (Aka Bonnie, Oma, Buns, Bunny, Bunisha, Butt)
Marguerite Elizabeth Petras, affectionately known as Bonnie, left an indelible mark on the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. With unwavering love and devotion, she embraced her roles as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and principal, touching countless hearts with her warmth and compassion. Bonnie’s love for dancing, laughter, and dedication to education enriched the lives of those around her.
Born in Queens and raised in a nurturing home, Bonnie’s journey led her to build a beautiful life with her husband Chris in the Georgia mountains, where she found joy in every moment. As a family, they treasured adventures together, from travel escapades to countless days of tennis matches and laughter-filled gatherings.
Bonnie’s magnetic spirit, genuine care for others, and infectious laughter created a wide circle of friends, including her cherished companion, Russell. Together, they cherished the simple joys of life, exploring new horizons and relishing each other’s company.
She is survived by her loving husband, Russ, her sons Ross and Joey and her daughters-in-law Kristen and Kristen. Bonnie was a doting grandmother to her eight adored grandchildren – Halen, Brayden, Kiley, Easton, Hudson, Christopher, Landen, and Nolan – who brought immense joy to her heart.
Bonnie’s legacy of love, courage, and zest for life will forever be cherished by her family and friends. As we bid farewell to this remarkable soul, may her memory continue to inspire us to live life to the fullest, to cherish every moment, and to spread love and kindness wherever we go. May she rest in eternal peace.
To my loving wife who I miss dearly. Your were so much fun in the short time we had together. I loved the traveling, the golfing, the dancing and the card games and most of all the love we had. I miss you so much and I love you so much. I’ll see you and the rest of the family and Mary when my time comes..
We got to know Bonnie in the last years since she married my brother, Russ. Bonnie was such a joy to get to know. We wanted to be like her when we grew up…even though we are older than her. Knowing her did indeed “inspire us to live life to the fullest, to cherish every moment and to spread love and kindness wherever we go.”
It was indeed an honor and pleasure to know Bonnie and will cherish those times we did spend together.
Rest in peace, Bonnie.
To my beautiful BBF (we called each other sisters) I can say with great pride, to have had her in my life made me a better person. Always positive, said it like it was, kind, funny, lived each day as if it was her last. She was the strongest and bravest person I’ve ever known. The wonderful memories will live inside me forever….
To my wonderful and loving wife who I had the pleasure of knowing for 45 years, but intimately 10 years.. I so enjoyed the golfing , dancing and all the traveling with you. You were such a strong and loving person. I miss you so much and love you more.
I got to know Bonnie at a St Patty’s NIght Dinner at Foxfire, she was with Russ and her 105 year old mom. We also played together on the tennis courts. Bonnie was an awesome daughter to her mom. It was clear the she and Russ were very in love. I remember the year they returned to Foxfire and had pictures of their wedding. I knew Bonnie had health issues the last couple of years. I was just thinking about her this morning as I passed their condo on Blue 3 and wondered when they might be back down. I was shocked to read in the September issue of Foxtales that her name appeared under “in memoriam”. You were a strong and wonderful person and I am so glad I was able to spend time with you. Hugs to you, Russ. I now how much you will miss her.
I don’t know what made me pull up this link today, but I was working on a new guest book for my home, and I dedicated the book to our number 1 guest, Oma! We spent more time with you than anyone else! We traveled with you, we visited you, you visited us all the time! Our kids were so lucky to have such an amazing Grandma. She did so much for all of us, and made us feel so special! Bonnie was always up for a walk, or a game of cards or Rummikub, she was the most active person I knew. She loved to spoil my girls with shopping sprees, or a day out with lunch and manicures. We all loved our time with her! I miss her so much! The world is not as sunny without Bonnie!
RIP to my second mother. What an amazing impact you had on my childhood, and thanks for teaching me how to ski (water and snow) and survive Cancun. Miss the days on Lake Lanier in Full House and Two Pair!
