Miss Cognetta, my heart is so heavy and I am at a loss for words! You were my third grade teacher 11 years ago. I admired you and what you did for your students. I felt a connection towards you that I will never be able to explain. I was always an advocate your kindness & compassion, but now like never before.

I enjoyed your company so much that after third grade school year was over, I had pleaded with my mom to have you tutor me—even though I was advanced in my studies. I wanted to spend more time with you and did not want to let the school year go just yet. My biggest regret was that I had never reached out after third grade was over; but I always thought about you from time to time.

You had such a pleasant demeanor and positive disposition towards life—that is something I will never forget. I will miss your beautiful soul and that uplifting smile you had! I hope to be as optimistic as you were.

Dearest Maria, We are so sorry to hear of your loss. God has taken a special Angel. You have shown such strength and stamina through out your illness. You were an inspiration to all. You were the love of your dad’s life. There is nothing he would have done, to take this illness away from you. If he could trade places with you, he would have done it in a heart beat. I know that sometimes he could be over bearing, but that was only because he loved you so much. My cousin’s heart is now broken and I don’t know if it will ever heal, but do know just how much he deeply loved you. May God Bless and Keep you safe.
