Marie Louise Rice

Marie Louise Rice (nee Latore) beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2025. Born April 29,1929 to Peter and Anna Latore. She was 96 years old.

Louise, as she was called by her family and friends, spent her early childhood years in Newark, NJ where she was born and later moved with her family to Belleville. Her father passed when she was 18, and she took on the responsibility of helping her mother care for her four younger brothers.

Louise met her husband Terry through friends, married on April 24, 1954 and began their life together in the Bronx. In 1960, they moved to their new home in Brentwood, NY where they raised their family of five children. They later relocated to Ormond Beach, FL where Mom joined the Red Hatters, sang with a community group, played Mahjong and Bunco. She remained in Florida for a number of years after our father passed away and eventually returned to New York to live with family in Miller Place.

Mom was kind and compassionate never missing the chance to give to those less fortunate. She was always up for a competitive game of Scrabble. She loved a good Manhattan, reading, watching parades and her favorite game show, Jeopardy, every night at 7PM. She danced along with the movie The Music Man and couldn’t get enough of My Cousin Vinny. The front porch was where she loved to hang out, weather permitting, catching up with life long friends and she was happiest when surrounded by her loving family to share a meal or just visiting.

A devout Catholic, Mom ushered at Prince of Peace Church in Ormond Beach and volunteered in their thrift shop. When mobility became an issue, watching the Mass on TV was the next best thing and she never missed a Sunday or Holy Day of Obligation.

Mom died peacefully in her sleep while listening to the songs she and our father loved best. Especially, Tony Bennett’s Because of You which as she told us many times was their song.

Louise is predeceased by her loving husband Terence, her parents, Peter and Anna Latore and her brother, Peter Latore Jr. She leaves behind her son Dennis Rice and wife Micki, and her four daughters, Patricia Collins and husband Francis, Barbara Sarni and husband Joseph, Ellen Camano and husband Richard and Diane Castaldi and husband Anthony. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and by her loving brothers Daniel, Lawrence and Joseph Latore.

A funeral mass at St. Louis de Montfort R.C. Church in Sound Beach was followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery.
