Born in:
New York, New York
Resided in:
Lake Grove, New York
Mark W. Antman, 75, a devoted educator and resident of Lake Grove, NY, passed away peacefully at home, with his loving wife Janice by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 28, 1949, in Manhattan, NY to Lester and Charlotte (Rosenzweig) Antman, Mark grew up in Commack, NY and graduated from Commack High School in 1968. He earned a Master’s Degree in Education from CW Post in 1973 and dedicated his career to special education in the Commack school district. After retiring in 2009, Mark continued to educate as a substitute teacher until February 2024. Mark will be remembered as a dedicated teacher who greeted students and colleagues each morning with a cheerful “Good Yawning.” His passion was making a difference in his students’ lives, guiding them with compassion and encouraging those who were struggling. He often said he was their Jiminy Cricket.
He is survived by his loving wife Janice (Sena) Antman; son Dougles Antman and wife Kari of Oceanside, NY; daughter Andrea Antman McCann and husband Todd of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren Brady, Gwenyth, Kelsey, and Charlotte; and brothers Robert and Richard Antman. When not at school, Mark’s other joy was gardening – planting and maintaining his yard, happy to dig in the dirt. He will be deeply missed.

The light of this candle pales in comparison to the light you brought into the lives of all those who knew you. Your light will remain in our hearts!
I’m so sorry to hear the passing of Mr. Antman he was the best substitute teacher I’ve had by far. Every time I walked into class and saw him I always knew class would be enjoyable he was an amazing man and fantastic substitute teacher. my condolences and prayers to his family and friends
I am so sorry to hear this. Jan and I went to school together and went on vacation together for spring break in 1971 to Daytona Beach. I always knew Mark and Jan would be married and happy forever. My thoughts and prayers are with Jan and the family.

Mr Antman was such an influence on my kids as they went through high school. We need more teachers like Mr. Atman who really care about our children. Rest in peace Mr. Antman.
Mr Antman was a sub of mine in high school. He was by far the best sub in the building. I’m in college now and still think about how deeply I enjoyed it when he came in with his fun ties and random facts. Thank you for making Commack a better place for so many kids.
I am currently a student at commack high school and whenever I saw Mr. Antman standing outside the door for attendance it immediately put a smile on my face. He was always a funny, understanding, and genuine person, and he will be missed by the students and staff at commack high School.
Mr. Antman never subbed a class without making everyone laugh. He was a kind sub who would fill me and my peers with joy. Mr. Antman will always be remembered as a substitute who would always make me and my classmates days.
Mr. Antman was a beautiful soul. He will absolutely be missed.
Mr. Antman was the best sub in commack. I am now graduated from commack but I will always remember how whenever I saw that he was the sub for my class I knew it be a good day. He was the best sub I’ve ever had with all his jokes and the light he brought to high school. He will truly be missed by so many students.
Mr Antman was the best teacher at CHS I always loved him. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. I will always remember him fondly. May he rest peacefully
RIP Mr Antman
Rip Mr Antman 🙏🏼
In loving memory of an old friend. Our high school years are a cherished memory. Mark introduced my late husband, Kerry and I back in 1966.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Jan, their children Andrea & Douglas and his grandchildren. I know he will be missed, but I also know that the love that surrounded him during his illness and the memories of his love and devotion to all of you will bring you through the dark days. He would have wanted it no other way. God Bless all of you and Mark’s kind soul.
Mr. Antman always brought joy whenever he was my sub. Whenever you knew your teacher wasn’t going to be in you always hoped you would have Mr. Antman. He was a very funny man and I will miss his jokes even more.
It’s unbelievable that someone so full of life is gone. Mark Antman loved the kids at school so much that being around the students became a part of him. He was always ready with a joke and a smile. He will be missed. Condolences to his wife and family.
