Matthew G. LoNigro

July 1, 1971 ~ May 10, 2023
With broken hearts, we sadly announce the sudden passing of Matthew Gerard LoNigro,
on May 10, 2023. He was only 51 years old. Matt was born in Rockville Centre, NY on July 1,
1971 to Richard and Priscilla. He graduated from Newfield High School in 1989 and later
attended St. Joseph’s College. Matt spent the majority of his career helping to build his family’s
company, Port Jefferson Sporting Goods. After selling Port Jeff Sports, he was currently
employed by BSN Sports.
Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Julia and his most precious children: Matthew Jr.
(20) and Abigail (16). He is also survived by his beloved parents, Richard and Priscilla LoNigro.
He will forever be remembered by his siblings: Rick LoNigro, Bobby LoNigro (Amy), Michael
LoNigro (Angel), Craig LoNigro (Kristin), Kevin LoNigro, Keira Kelly (Bob), Koren Hart (Tim), Paul
LoNigro (Donna), Shauna LoNigro Kerr (Rob), Brianne Cardaci (Nick), and he was a proud uncle
to many nieces and nephews, including his beautiful goddaughter, Brittni.
Throughout his life, Matt was involved in many organizations near and dear to his heart.
He was the current President of the Miller Place Athletic Booster Club while being a member of
the Hope House Ministries Advisory Board and the Hope House Golf Committee. He was also a
Board Member for the LICH Backpack Pirates and the Christmas Magic Organization.
An avid supporter of all youth sports, Matt’s true passion was coaching. He coached his
son’s youth lacrosse team in Miller Place and was a pee-wee soccer coach for St. Louis de
Montfort. He was also involved in girls lacrosse, coaching his son and daughter’s teams for
many years. Never wanting a child to miss an opportunity to play, he would often step up and
coach teams just to prevent them from having to fold. He became the PAL Director for Miller
Place Boys Lacrosse and later was named to the Board.
Matt was a loving son, brother, father and husband. He was a fiercely loyal friend, who
loved his family, friends and community deeply. We are all better people for knowing him and
are forever changed now that he is gone

So sad to hear of Matt’s passing. Matt was always a good dude and it came as no surprise to see how many lives he’s touched. Sincere condolences to Paul and their family.
You have been a best friend since HS, we can go months without talking but when we hooked up it was like we didn’t skip a beat. I remember many wonderful memories that will last a life time, sitting in the hallway and thinking of a mascot we didn’t have and till this day it stands (mad dogs) we made this up.
the first varsity game when we had no uniforms, you and I went to port Jeff and printed them before our first game.
Going tothe Hofstra lax games togethe, especially the Hobart game, I’m tearing up as Ii write this as it was a memory of our that we still talked about 35 years later,!
your fight with Q, I stood behind you no matter what. “
Old “faithful” You-were a beast with that stick. So much fun playing lax with you
The indoor fight you started lol when mr Armstrong lost his rolex watch
And most importantly, the work you put into Hope house ministries
, I love my brother until we meet again, a piece of my heart will be missing without you

Praying for grace and strength. Matt was a wonderful business partner and friend. The St John the Baptist football brotherhood mourns with you. Honoring him through Hope House is fitting since Matt’s smile and positive attitude spread hope to all the people around him. God bless him and may God watch over you all. – Coach Phil Alba, SJB football

A kind soul who will be truly missed here in the Miller Place, NY community.
A special person who was taken too early but will be remembered by all!
Your kind heart and dedication to the youth here in our community is an example as to what a true community leader he was!
Today and always, may loving memories bring you strength and comfort. With a heavy heart, I give my sincere condolences to you and your family.
