Melissa “Meme” Zaug, 41, passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2021. Melissa is survived by her husband, Eric Zaug, children Ryan and Lily, parents, Eileen and Artie Sainsbury and Tommy Tame, her grandmother Rose, her sisters, Aja Lanzone, Jillian Sainsbury and brother, Joseph Sainsbury and her dog Duke. Melissa was also adored by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and her two nieces, Viviana and Carmela.
Melissa was born on December 10, 1979 in Queens, New York and later relocated to Commack and the Smithtown, New York areas. Melissa was a gymnast as a child and went on to become the captain of the Commack High School Varsity Cheerleading Squad. Melissa studied at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and was a Criminalist for the NYPD.
Melissa loved life, especially being a wife and a mother. She lived her life for her children and was very nurturing to everyone including her siblings. She was an avid cheer mom and spent most of her time driving her children to competitions and a variety of sporting activities and the cub scouts. Melissa was always smiling. She was a bright light who loved everything that sparkled. Melissa had many friends and loved taking excursions to the casino with her girlfriends.
Melissa is loved by many and will always be remembered loving the beach with sunglasses on her head and flip flops on her feet.
