Guestbook

  1. candleHeartfelt condolences to Mike’s family. I worked with him in my first few years of professional life and learned a lot from him. Thank you Mike for all your guidance and the stories.

  2. candleI worked with Mike for many years at Citishare. Mike was a wonderful coworker – he loved his work and was good at it. More important – he was an exuberant man, always smiling and very kind. He was always very generous in sharing his knowledge with others – I was always thankful for his support. He often spoke warmly of his wife and three children – his love for his family was obvious. I was fortunate to work alongside and get to know Mike – a war veteran, a Dave Matthews fan, a man who embodied the energy of someone less than half his age – he was a honorable man. Sending my condolences to his family.

  3. candleMike was a highly respected colleague at Citibank (Citishare) whose contributions to the development of retail electronic funds transfers for consumers were significant. Mike was a great guy, a crucial team member, and a pivotal figure in the evolution of Citishare’s global business. His pioneering work significantly changed how consumers would interact with their bank accounts, providing instant access to their cash and account information worldwide.

Mike’s expertise and leadership were instrumental in the project management and technical support for Citibank’s first non-mainland US connection to CB-Puerto Rico. Mike’s achievement marked the beginning of numerous successful connections with other foreign Citi affiliates, each project benefiting from Mike’s unique blend of technical acumen and strategic foresight.

Working alongside Mike was always a pleasure. His dedication, kindness, and mentorship left a lasting impact on everyone he worked with. His legacy is not just in the projects he led or the innovations he introduced, but also in the community he built and the colleagues he inspired.
Mike’s absence will be deeply felt by his colleagues at Citishare and by all who had the privilege to know him.

My deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to work with him. Mike’s contributions to our field and the positive spirit he brought to our team will never be forgotten.

  4. candleMy sincerest condolences to you and your family. Mike was such a sweet and nice man. I have such fond memories of us dancing and having fun.

  5. I send my thoughts and prayers to the Thompson family. I worked with Mike at Citi and learned a lot from him. I particularly liked my walks to the East River, stopping for Lemonade along the way. May you have the equivalent of a bountiful supply of Lemonade and walks…

Thank you Mike for the inspiration, walks, and Lemonade!

    • Thank you Jason for sharing that wonderful memory.. I am glad you were able to have that time with Mike. Hope you and your family are well.

  6. I echo everything written by my former Citishare colleagues. Working with Mike was a pleasure. He was generous with his time, knowledge and humor. He was a true teammate in that he supported everyone, applauded success and celebrated the common win. I learned a lot from Mike and not just about payments. He encouraged me to be confident and curious. He was one of the good guys. Sending love to his family.

  7. I worked w Mike at Citi and was blessed with his knowledge sharing. Not only business but life. He spoke lovingly of his family and proudly of his time in Vietnam. Heartfelt condolences to the family.

  8. I worked with Mike at Citi when I was barely 18 and he always took the time to help me understand the work. When I would sit in his office and he would tell me “let me draw you a picture” I knew I was about to learn something good. He would always end our sessions with a wonderful story about his family. Such a blessing to have known this man.

    • Thank you, Vanessa, for sharing his story. He used to tell me to draw things when I was growing up also. He always said “you don’t understand it if you can’t draw it” and I still follow that advice to this day.

  9. candleMike was an intellectual force to be reckoned with yet he remained a humble teacher who excelled at explaining complex topics and pursuing industry-altering innovations despite practical limitations. I still use his guidance of “you don’t understand it if you can’t draw it” and have abiding love (and respect) for his ever-present Fireballs.

Perhaps the most important of Mike’s traits was his honesty and integrity, exemplified by his love of family, friends, colleagues and country and the palpable joie de vivre with which he embraced life.

Thank you, Mike, for setting such a good example of a life well-lived. The experience of working with you has had and will continue to have an impact on my own life.

Sending condolences, hugs and blessings to his family.

    • Thank you Carol for the kind words. Love how you mentioned that “you don’t understand it if you can’t draw it”. He used to tell me that all the time when I was learning things. In fact, I found myself drawing things out CONSTANTLY in my own professional career during meetings and also in my personal life when planning things like home renovations.

Thank you for sharing his story.

  10. Condolences to Mike’s family and friends. I worked with Mike at Citishare Corporation beginning in Lake Success and then Long Island City. He was a caring and wonderful person, very good at what he did and always take the time to listen to what you have to say and give you pointers if you needed to solve a problem. One could learn from him due to his vast knowledge in the industry. I used to love to hear him talk about when he was in the Army and some of the things he had to do. Will be missed. RIP/SIP

    • Thank you, Norma, for sharing his story. My Dad always spoke highly of his time at Citishare. He truly loved working there.

  11. candleMike was a great mentor to me when I started my career at Citishare 20+ years ago. I learned so much from him, tools that I still use in my professional work everyday. Mike was always available to toss ideas around and provide support to his colleagues. But most of all, I remember Mike for his infectious smile, dedication to his family and fun loving curiosity about life. I feel so lucky to be have known him. My sincerest condolences to Mike’s family.

    • Thank you, Margaret, for sharing his story. My Dad was indeed always curious, a trait that I’m proud to have picked up from him. You’re dead on about his smile. We used to joke that he couldn’t take a bad picture if he tried.

  12. candleIt was a pleasure to work with Mike for many years at Citishare. He was a mentor and a happy person who made the days brighter at work. He was always great at putting things in perspective and was always willing to teach . Always wore a smile on his face and made the day lighter. I learned from Mike that sharing knowledge is the best way to be a team player and I carried that throughout my own career. I’m sure he left an impact on many and may his smile be remembered by all. My condolences to his family.

  13. Such a sad day. Mike has been my friend since 1975, when we started working together at FNCB/Citi. Our families became close friends when we all lived in Belgium, and that warm friendship endures to this day. He was always kind, caring, helpful, and knowledgeable and we have so many fond, quirky, silly events to remember from our time outside work.
Mike you were one of the best, and the world needs a lot more Mike Thompsons these days. We can’t make it on friday, but will raise a glass or two to celebrate him.
Loving memories from Richard and Lindy London, Gary and family Dublin, Jenny and family Mamaroneck
    You will never be forgotten.

    • Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m glad we were able to get together a few years ago. I know my Dad loved it.

  14. candleLinda, Mike , Lori
I’m so sorry for your loss. So many fun memories hanging out with him at your house during high school. I still remember the when we were taking down your pool, and Mike Jay and I had a plan to finally tackle him and take him down. I proceeded to get a swift kick to the chest that sent me flying backwards. He was a great man and I’m lucky I got to be around him

  15. candleDear Linda and family. Bob and I send our deepest sympathy to you all. The first time i remember meeting Mike was in the Leisure Village Garden Club. His garden was next to mine, and he was enjoying planting his vegetables. I was struck by his looking like the actor on the TV show ‘Last Man Standing”. Hector Elizondo. We would have liked to have gotten to know him better. He was the kind of person you would like to have as a friend.

  16. We are so saddened by the news of Mike’s passing. He was such a kind and gentle sole.
He will be sorely missed. May he Rest in Peace.
    Love, Laurie and Bill

  17. candleThe loss of a parent leaves a void that words cannot fill. Please accept my heartfelt condolences, and may you find comfort in the arms of those who care about you.
