Nancy Anne Walter, age 67, of Smithtown, NY, passed away Wednesday evening, March 26, 2025. She was born in 1957 in Flushing, NY.
Nancy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Nancy is survived by her husband Frederick Walter; four children, Julie Garvey, Emily Clark, Audrey Morgan, and Frederick Walter; three sons in law, Bill Garvey, Bobby Clark, and Kevin Morgan; and eight grandchildren, Bridget, Keira, and Meredith Garvey, Liam and Thomas Clark, and Abigail, Evelyn, and Sean Morgan. She also leaves behind many other family members and cherished friends who will sadly miss her.
Mom only had 67 years here, but in her short time she managed to touch all of our hearts in ways only she could. She always put her children first and taught us that the love of a mother is like nothing else in this world.
For the 4 of us, Mom was the first one we’d call when we had good news to share and also who we’d run to when we needed comfort.
From being little kids to grown adults, she was always our biggest supporter.
Mom had the patience of a saint. She happily cheered us on as we sang and danced for hours, and then did the same for her grandkids. It was this incredible selflessness that also allowed her to take care of Dad in his time of need.
The two of them together taught us all about having a healthy marriage, the good, the bad and what real love means.
As kids, Mom taught us to enjoy the little things in life. No one would get more excited for a snow day and she would even encourage us to skip high school on a beautiful day so we could enjoy a day at the beach.
We loved our days going to the library, walking in the woods, and playing board games together. The thing about Mom was she always found a way to make each and every day special.
She taught us the value of tradition, eating sauerkraut on New Year’s Day and making sure to have it in the hospital after giving birth to Freddy on December 31st.
Thanksgiving wouldn’t be complete without her string bean casserole.
Aside from food, we will always remember her special moments. She made sure we sang our night time songs together, like “Day is Done” that we now all sing to our kids.
The only thing she loved more than being a mom was being a grandma, or Goma, as the kids all call her, thanks to Bridget’s first attempts at saying grandma.
She wore the Goma badge of honor for only 13 years, but I think we would all agree, they were the best years of her life. She developed such a special bond with each and every one of her 8 grand-babies.
Mom taught us strength. She fought this cancer & though the odds were very much against her, she had the gift of remission for 18 years that allowed her to see her daughters all marry & become mothers, it allowed her to become Goma, and it allowed her to see her son find his love. This was the best time of our lives and we are so eternally thankful for that.
Mom never gave up, despite the pain, she showed strength til the very end.
Mom, we are all forever grateful for the life you’ve given us, your unconditional love and the values you’ve instilled in us. We will all forever be in awe if your strength, grace, and beauty.
