Lieutenant Richard Grice

lieutenant richard grice

March 22, 1973 ~ May 27, 2026

Born in: West Islip, NY
Resided in: Commack, NY

With profound sadness, we share the passing of Richard Grice, Lieutenant in the Suffolk County Police Department. Rich will be dearly missed by his beloved wife and four daughters, who he was devoted to and adored. He also leaves behind his loving parents, mother-in law, father-in-law, four sisters and spouses, four nieces and four nephews, in addition to many uncles, aunts and cousins.

A graduate of Lindenhurst High School, Rich worked as a Town of Babylon lifeguard before embarking on his career as a police officer in the NYPD. He later transferred to the SCPD where he continued his distinguished career in public service and also found great fulfillment working as a Town of Smithtown Park Ranger. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, and his ability to light up a room with his quiet humor will be fondly remembered.

  3. candleI am so very sorry for your loss. I went to Jr. High and High School with Rich and have very fond memories of him. He always had such a quiet sense of humor that made me laugh. RIP Rich 🙏

  4. candleI’ll miss you brother, I always thought we would meet up down here in Florida when we were retired having a nice beer on the beach, like back in the day.

  5. Rest in peace Rich. From elementary school to high school you were a great friend. Prayers to your family.

  6. candleMemories of your visits to see Dana and I at Marist and the shenanigans at Cortland will stay with me forever. Rest in eternal peace my friend. 💙 Love and prayers to everyone you touched.

  8. candleMy deepest condolences go out to Rich’s family. I knew Rich in elementary school through high school – he was always funny, smart and well liked by everyone. All around good guy – may he rest in peace

  9. It’s so hard to take in and my heart is broken for you all.

I’m so sorry I can’t be with you at this deeply sad time. Know that you are all in my heart and in my thoughts and sending you so much love and strength from the UK.

  10. Rich, you were such a kind, loving, and caring person. You will be missed tremendously.

  11. candleSuch a tough loss. Richie was one of my favorite friends of all time. We had countless great times together. He had a heart of gold. He was a thoughtful, caring person with a great sense of humor and was always so easy to be around.

Unfortunately, It’s been several years since we last got together in person, and for that I will always have regret now. I know we would have picked up exactly where we left off when we finally did reconnect, and I somehow counted on that.

I will forever miss my great friend, but I will never forget all the great times we shared and his amazing spirit.

RIP, my brother. You will be sorely missed.
