Knickerbocker, Richard Age 81, is a retired 26 year veteran of the Suffolk County Police Department passed on December 22, 2019, from ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease. Mr. Knickerbocker was born on February 22, 1938, in Peekskill, N.Y. to George B. Knickerbocker & Elizabeth Knickerbocker. He grew up in Peekskill & graduated Peekskill High School.He was a 7 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force & the New York Air National Guard. He was a life member of VFW Post 8442, American Legion, Suffolk County PBA, Suffolk County Police Conference & N.Y.S. Retired Police Association.He was a graduate of SUNY Farmingdale, Associate Degree & a B.S. from New York Institute of Technology. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Margaret A. Knickerbocker & a son Richard W. Knickerbocker.He is survived by his son, Christopher M. Knickerbocker of Smithtown, sister Kay Lynch Rottela of Rensselaer, N.Y., sister-in-law's Mary Knickerbocker of Buchanan, N.Y. & Idola Knickerbocker of Gurley, Alabama, brother-in-law & numerous Nieces & Nephews.Five brothers: George 'Botsy' Knickerbocker; Edwin Knickerbocker, William Knickerbocker, Christopher McGrath, Walter McGrath, & Four (4) Sisters: Georgette 'Jo' Gaydos, Mae Shirin & Dorothy Knickerbocker & Elizabeth Knickerbocker, predeceased him.Reposing at Branch Funeral Home 190 East Main St. Smithtown, NY 11787.Visitation Friday 11 - 1 PM.Funeral Service Friday 1 PM at the Funeral Home.Interment following to Calverton National Cemetery.www.branchfh.com
