Richard S. Kliegl
March 26, 1949– June 20, 2025
Richard Schuyler Kliegl, 76, of Medford NY, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A devoted father, grandfather, brother, and husband, Richard graduated with a Bachelors degree from St. John’s University in 1971 before beginning his career as a banker for Chemical Bank & Chase until deciding to pursue a new career in computer programming in 1990. After going back to school at Grumman to earn his certification, he was hired by Health Management Systems in May 1991 where he would ultimately retire on April 3, 2020 after nearly 30 years of long tireless days commuting to the city in order to provide the best life he could for his family. From 2000-2002, he worked for Morgan Stanley at the World Trade Center where his life would be spared during the 9/11 attacks by making his way out of the building and boarding the last running subway train before the buildings would collapse. However, the aftermath would be a catalyst to his eventual diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis in 2016 – a condition which would worsen in his last two years and ultimately take his life. Richard cherished trips to Orlando FL and Walt Disney World with his wife, children, and later with his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching movies with some of his favorites being Back to the Future, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars. However, music was his first passion. The Beatles, Paul McCartney, and Billy Joel, were some of his favorites and would inspire him to record his own music before playing in the band “Shades of Blue” where he would meet his future wife Donna of 46 years whom he leaves behind with his brothers Robert and James, his two son’s Keith and Gary, his daughter in law Moriah, and his four grandchildren Julianna, Ryan, Susanna, and Brianna. Richard’s faith in God and legacy of love and compassion will live on in all who knew and loved him. He will forever be missed.
