Ritajeanne Theresa Miniutti died unexpectedly on the evening of November 26, 2025 while preparing for her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, with family. She was born on January 7, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Charles and Miriam Mahoney.

Rita is survived and missed by her loving husband of fifty-nine years, Steve; her children, Gregory, Krista (Paul), Mary Lynn, Dennis (Andrea); her three grandchildren, Nicholas, Lillianna and Thomas; her brother Edward Mahoney; her sisters-in-law Judith Mahoney and Regina (Henry) Engler; her nieces and nephews Susan (Douglass), Maureen (Thomas), Kerri (Thomas), Edward (Jessie), Paul (Doria), Joseph, Richard, Devon (Chris), Sean (Jen), Amanda (Rob), Matthew and Marina; and her nineteen great nieces and nephews.

Rita was predeceased by her parents, her brother Charles Mahoney, her sister Mary Elizabeth (“Tootsie”) Mahoney and her daughter, Karen Miniutti. She was also predeceased by her in-laws Severino and Lucy Miniutti, her sisters-in-law, Diana Keily and Linda Mahoney, and brother-in-law Joseph Keily.

Rita grew up in Elmont and attended nursing school at St. Clare’s in Manhattan, graduating in 1965. She met and fell in love with her beloved Steve during her nursing school years, marrying in 1966. Rita spent her professional life as a registered nurse tending to the sick and caring for those in need. Similarly, she devoted her personal life to lovingly raising and shepherding her immediate and extended family. She was fiercely protective of all those within her orbit and was often relied upon by family and friends for sage advice and counsel on all manner of health-related issues. Her greatest joys in life, however, were being a mother, an aunt and most of all, a grandmother. Nana, as she was known, reveled in the accomplishments – athletic, academic and otherwise – of her cherished grandchildren and made it to nearly every game, performance, and recital. She was a true Christian in every sense of the word and often found peace, solace and guidance by visiting various parish churches and shrines throughout Long Island. She and Steve enjoyed traveling with friends, Pete and Barbara Clark and Bob and Fran Reavey, and spending time with family whenever and wherever they gathered. She was a trusted confidant, a loyal friend and sister and a devoted, loving, wife, mother, aunt and grandmother. She will be gravely missed by all those fortunate enough to have known her.
