Robert A. Ziegler, 60, of Rocky Point, NY, formerly of Hempstead, NY, Sayville, NY, and Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on November 3, 2024, in Southold, NY. He is survived by his loving children, Robert J. (Jackie) of Centereach and Joanna Ziegler of Syracuse, NY.

He was a popular uncle, beloved by his nieces and nephews, Evan and Gabrielle Ziegler, John and Adam Culloton and Nancy Ziegler. Robert was predeceased by his father, Robert H. Ziegler in 2022.
Bob was an All County Lacrosse player at Rocky Point High School, graduating in 1982. He went into sales in New York City and Nassau County and found he had immense talent for creating connections and developing relationships in the sales field. In the 2000´s, he took his lifelong passion for automobiles to become a buyer for Hall Automotive.
Everyone who spent time with Bob instantly met a friend. He had a nickname for everyone he encountered. Bob was a lifelong, devoted Raiders, Rangers, and Yankees Fan and knew nearly everything there was to know about each team. He played any sport that was in front of him, leading the fun with various baseball, softball, intramural hockey, intramural volleyball and lacrosse teams in his youth. He loved music, singing along loudly to all of the lyrics he adored by The Rolling Stones, J Geils Band and Eric Clapton. Most of all, he loved being with his children and family, driving his Bronco around town, and fishing with his son and friends across the beautiful sound, bays, and inlets of Long Island. He was known by everyone as someone who frequently added a unique turn of phrase and a helping hand whenever it was needed. Bob will be missed dearly by all who loved him.

Back in the late 80s and early 90s, Bob and I became good friends. I affectionately became “Nails” to Bob, named after Lenny Dykstra…because that’s how I played softball and did everything…balls to the wall. We worked at Lightalarms and played for J Pauls Terrace Cafe softball team, and had lots of laughs. Played stickball with Liebl, and hung out in Oceanside and Freeport, when he lived there and had Marvelous Marvin and Layla. Hung out there sometimes when Mushroom Head or Buddha were over, and played hoops sometimes at Kennedy Park with Jimmy the Rat, ands went to the beach with Bob, Bruno and Roy.
Bob was a good friend those years, and I am thankful he said “yes” to being an usher for me and “Miss Kerri”. Before meeting my wife, Bob and I played a softball game vs some guys from the Lightalarms warehouse where I broke my hand and had to wear a cast for 6 weeks. Just days after getting it off, I was to go to Mexico where I wound up meeting a girl from Queens who eventually became my wife (“Miss Kerri”).
The stories, and…the fun we had at Lightalarms and playing on the J Pauls team…I will ALWAYS remember.
You HAVE been missed, and will continue to be missed, Buddy! But now you can rest in peace, and your stories and your nicknames will live on forever!
Your buddy,
Nails
Rest in peace you will be missed
Dearest Joanna n Robbie, Johanna, Wally n Aunt Bea are so very sorry to hear the passing of your dad. Praying for comfort n healing of the days ahead. Love you all!
Sally and family. So sorry to hear about Robert’s passing. My prayers are withal, of you.
So very sorry for your sad loss. There are no words. May he Rest in Peace.
My sympathies to Sally and the Ziegler family. Didn’t know Bob but sure knew his Dad when we were growing up in Hempstead
and the entire Ziegler family, Butch and I were running buddies especially in THE ’49 Buick. Butch was definitely the toughest guy
in our group and a great guy in a wonderful Catholic family.
Bob sure resembled Butch.
Also had some “Great Baseball Discussions” with Mr Ziegler
Memories of an Old Man
I was good friends with Robert 40 years ago and after college we sadly lost touch. He was such a good friend at the time and was always so much fun to hang out with. Oddly just thought to google him last night and saw this terrible news. My sincere condolences to Robert’s family.
Dear Sally
Deepest sympathy to you
I’m lost for word
