Born in: Brooklyn, NY
Resided in: Chesterfield, MO

Rosalie “Lee” Pillar Semente, 91, of Chesterfield, MO, passed away peacefully at home on April 9, 2026.

Born October 12, 1934, in New York City to José and Josephina Rodriguez, Lee was a lifelong New Yorker at heart, even as she spent her later years closer to family in Missouri and Florida. She attended Fordham University during a time when few women were on campus, and married the love of her life, Arthur Carmen Semente, in June 1955—a marriage that spanned decades and was filled with devotion. Art often referred to her simply and lovingly as “my beautiful bride.”

Lee was deeply invested in her community. She dedicated over 40 years to education as a teacher and guidance counselor in the Wyandanch and Brentwood school systems (1965–2007), where she mentored and supported generations of students. When she wasn’t working in the classroom, she served with the Brentwood Ambulance Corps and as a board member of Catholic Charities, living out her belief in mission and service every day.

To her family, she was simply “Mom,” or “Nana,” a role she cherished above all else. Nothing brought her more joy than having her family together. She took her role seriously as the host of countless Thanksgivings, Christmases, and Easter gatherings—and happily relied on catering and the contributions of others to bring the meals to life. She loved Christmas, especially collecting animatronic Santas and baroque angels, along with reading good books and tackling a challenging crossword puzzle.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur, and her daughter, Lauren Longobardi—losses she carried the remainder of her life.

Lee is survived by her children Karen Isaacs, Deborah (Steve) Cotariu, and Mark Semente; and her grandchildren Heather Cotariu, Christopher Cotariu, Lisa Sabino, Gina Longobardi,  Sam Longobardi and great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her greatly.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication to others, and the unmistakable way she made people feel welcomed and cared for—perfectly imperfect, deeply loved, and impossible  to forget.

  1. candleRosalie Semente was both my colleague and my friend. She gave so much to the Brentwood School District through her dedication, hard work, and quiet humility. Countless students benefited from her efforts. Rosalie was a kind and generous person, and I will remember her with great respect and affection.

  3. I want to share with you briefly how much Rosalie meant for me… It was her mom, Josephine, who would write to my mom in the Argentinian patagonia while I was a teenager… One Christmas we dis not get her card and my mom urged my sisters and I to figure out how to call in English and find out what had happened… Rosalie answered and eased our worries because she was fluent in Spanish… her mom had passed away… that call triggered others and soon we all came to visit Rosalie and Arthur in one of my father’s lovable trips to visit family in Spain. Rosalie’s kindness, her unique way to make us feel family was one of the big things that moved me to come to study to the US later on (Pitt’s scholarship was the other big thing). As a student in Pittsburgh I remember coming to visit her… Rosalie would take me to BJ’s and without me saying a word get for me spaghetti, sauce, sugar, tea… you name it… she knew I was living on a tight budget those days… she knew it was hard to be away from my family… so far away… she those days became what I needed most… Later I married an Argentinian girl and we had the pleasure of, we still remember it to this day, to share our first Thanksgiving with Rosalie and the rest of the family at Lauren and Richard’s home… My story would have been very different without Rosalie… I will miss her a lot. A big hug for all gathering ther for her today. Thank you Rosalie…

  5. Rest in peace, Rosalia. Thank you for your kindness and for making us feel so welcomed when we stayed at your home. My condolences and all my love to Deborah, Karen and Mark.
