Ross Petras (1976 – 2026)
Ross Petras, 49, the legendary “One Star” of Waxhaw, North Carolina, passed away on June 19, 2026. A larger-than-life rockstar and a true hero to his family, Ross lived a life defined by bold adventures, deep friendships, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 15, 1976, Ross was the son of the late Chris and Bonnie Petras. He grew up in Marietta, Georgia, where his magnetic charisma was evident early on. At Pope High School, he served as Class President and was a standout multi-sport athlete in football, wrestling, and golf—eventually being crowned “Mr. Pope High School,” a title he carried with pride throughout his life. Ross continued his journey at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he majored in Marine Biology, played for the football team, and served as the Pledgemaster of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. It was through these early years of sports and brotherhood that he forged the lifelong friendships he nurtured and cherished until his final day.
In 1999, Ross’s life changed forever when he met the love of his life, Kristen, on the beaches of Hilton Head Island. They married in 2003, beginning a 27-year journey of love and partnership. Together, they built a beautiful life and a beautiful family, raising three children: Halen, Kiley, and Christopher.
Ross is survived by his beloved wife, Kristen Petras; his children, Halen Sandra, Kiley Elizabeth, and Christopher Jackson; and his four-legged “Angel,” Volley. He also leaves behind his brother, Joey, and sister-in-law, Kristen, of Peachtree City, Georgia, along with his 12 nieces and nephews. To them, he was always “Uncle Rossome,” a title earned through his infectious love for life and his ability to make every moment fun.
A natural leader, Ross founded Biotech Partners in 2003. Through his passion and tireless work ethic, he spent 23 years mentoring others and providing life-changing experiences for his team. His impact extended far beyond the office; Ross never met a stranger and possessed the rare gift of making everyone feel like they were his best friend. He was a cornerstone of his many communities, including Indian Princess Cherokee Tribe, F3 Waxhaw, the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO), Providence Downs, and his cherished Firethorne gang.
Ross lived to inspire. Whether he was coaching football and wrestling, or serving as the loudest cheerleader on the sidelines of his children’s volleyball games, he was always their biggest fan. His thirst for adventure led his family across the globe, creating a lifetime of memories they will hold in their hearts forever.
In honor of his legacy, the family asks that you “Live Like Ross.” In his own words, life is short, so live it boldly: wear the crazy outfits, get on stage, sing loud, and dance without hesitation. Book the trip, take a moment to rejuvenate in nature, laugh at yourself and
always be the friend who makes the time to stay connected. Read, nap, ski and golf to your heart’s content, but most importantly, be an inspiration to others.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who provided friendship and support to Ross, Kristen and family throughout his journey. A celebration of Ross’s incredible life will be held on Saturday evening, August 8th at the Country Club of the Carolinas (Firethorne).
