September 28, 1967 ~ January 18, 2026
Born in:
Brooklyn, New York
Resided in:
Mt. Sinai, New York
Salvatore “Chip” Sorrentino Jr, 58, of Mount Sinai, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026, surrounded by his wife and children, after a courageous 19-month battle with Stage IV pancreatic cancer.
Chip was a devoted husband to Gina Sorrentino and the most loving father to Joseph (Kelsea), Jenna (Martin), and Julia (Vincent). He was also a cherished “Grandpappi” to his grandson, Martin Joseph Salvatore, who brought him immense joy, along with his grandpups and cats, Truckee, Peter, and Simba, and the many beloved pets who preceded him, including Ben, Oakley, Bella, and Gizmo.
Sal had a natural instinct to help others, which led him early in his career to mentor at Monford House, part of Hope House Ministries, where he worked closely with at-risk youth, offering guidance and stability to juvenile kids who needed it most.
Sal proudly served 20 years with the New York City Police Department, dedicating his life to protecting others. During the September 11th attacks, Sal reported to duty immediately and worked on the ground that day and for three months following, an experience that profoundly shaped his life and service. After retiring from the NYPD, he continued serving his community through his work doing security at St. Charles Hospital, Three Village School District, and Rocky Point School District.
Known for his generosity and warmth, Chip treated friends like family and made everyone he knew feel special. As an avid animal lover, he was a strong supporter of Strong Island Animal Rescue. He was also a passionate Van Halen fan, a boating enthusiast, and loved spending time by the pool or beach, playing darts, and being with friends. He even formed special bonds with the children his daughters nannied for, treating them like his own grandchildren.
Salvatore is survived by his wife, children, grandson, parents, extended family, and many, many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charities shown below in memory of Salvatore Sorrentino.

Chip was a wonderful guy and we only have nice memories of him. It is a terrible loss for the family and the community and all the people he touched with his great enthusiasm about life . Chip was also an avid runner and ran several 5K races in the area to help charity endeavors. His passing is very sad for all of us.
Our sincere condolences & heartfelt sympathy to my sweet lovely Daughter-in-Law Jenna Marie, to the entire Sorrentino Clan and to ALL who loved Chip. You are ALL in our prayers 🙏 You lost a loving father, father in law, husband, grandpappi, uncle and friend. ✝️
He was a true American Hero NYPD officer during his career & 9/11 💔
Chip was one of the greats and one of the nicest & most-fun guys you could know 💝
His legacy will live on through his family, friends and the beautiful memories he made and the smiles he generated & shared.
As Marty said: “It’s hard to explain how bigger than life my Father in Law Chip was. If you just met him once you would understand! I’m so glad you got to walk my wife down the aisle and be Grandpappy to my son! Words can’t describe how much you meant to soooo many people! I can only hope to be half the father, husband or man that you were. Love you Chip ❤️☘️”
Go leanfaidh Dia ort ag coinneáil ort ina lámha. ☘️
May God continue to hold you in His hands. 🙏
Riposa in pace, Salvatore ❤️
