Hnis, Scott M – of Kings Park, New York, passed away on July 1, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Christine (née Schroeder), devoted father of Thomas and Emily, and cherished son of Richard and the late Patricia Hnis.

He is survived by his loving brothers, Ricky and Craig, and sister-in-law, Kimberly. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces—Kayla, Hailey, Madison, and Brianna—and his mother-in-law, Janet Schroeder. Scott was a caring nephew to Carole Hnis, and the late Donald, Ken & Debbie Hnis, Jack & Geraldine Cosgrove and Jack & Anna Boyle. He is also survived by many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Scott was a retired Senior Parole Officer for the State of New York. He loved spending time on his boat, fishing, cheering on his children at lacrosse games, and sharing laughter over a cold beer. His quick wit, unwavering support for his family, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Branch Funeral Homes of Commack (2115 Jericho Turnpike, Commack, NY 11725) on Monday, July 7, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 7:00–9:00 PM. Guestbook

  1. Scott was always so supportive at lacrosse games. Made sure to compliment all the players to their parents. Prayers are with the entire family and for Scott. So sorry we cannot attend as we have… a lacrosse commitment. Feel like Scott would understand.

  2. candleScott,

It hurts to see you go. I always looked forward to seeing you at Ron and Jackie’s. You lit up the room with your smile and laughter. Rest easy and have a few cold ones with Ron!

    Love,
    The Kelly’s

  3. Our very sincere sympathies. We rarely saw Scott as adults but anytime we did he was warm and made you feel as if he was glad to see you. What a terrible loss. Sending love to the entire Hnis family.

  4. We are so sorry to miss the services. I know especially that Grace would love to be there for Emily. Scott was always so kind to all on the lacrosse sidelines. So thankful both of our daughters met during those early FLG years and continued on together doing what they love. 🥍 Sending love and prayers to those who miss him deeply. May he rest in eternal peace.

  5. My deepest condolences and sympathy to the Hnis family. I’m so sorry for your loss. Scott was my former partner at the NYS Division of Parole. I will always cherish the time we shared together in our careers. As one previously mentioned, he was known for his quick wit and always brought a laugh. His sense of humor always made the workday more enjoyable, and at the same time, he always had my back. We spent much-time sharing fish stories, specifically how he caught guppies in the Long Island Pond (Sound) as I was catching sharks in the ocean. Yes, they were tales, but they will always be remembered, as will he. Scott, my friend/partner, rest in peace, and may our paths cross again.
