  3. candleIt is not often that we celebrate someone so special, someone we were so blessed to have with us for so many great years, and in my case, someone who has been a part of my life, and wonderful memories, since childhood!
Shirley was, for as long as I can remember, such an amazing and strong role model, she lived life on her own terms, and when all others her age were starting to slow down, , Shirley was square dancing, taking ski trips and living life to its fullest! She never ceased to amaze all those around her, with her boundless energy, her endless gift of gab and her enthusiastic can-do mind set!
One of her finest accomplishments, and the proof-in-the-pudding to a life well lived , are the three amazing daughters she raised, one of which I am deeply blessed to be able to call my best friend, throughout the whole of my life!! My wonderful memories of this special & unique lady date back to elementary school, so many memories, including the nearly every other week sleep-overs at her home, year after year- a home I was always made to feel welcome and a part of… especially when Shirley would try her best, with great fanfare, to educate, enlighten & to encourage me ….on the wisdom & necessity of eating my vegetables… the funny things we remember, about those we share the moments of our lives with, are truly the icing on the cake of life!

There are so few people who play such a long and profound part in one’s life, and such a big part of the many memories of our lifetime…. I’m so very thankful for the important place she has held in mine!

For all she meant, to all those who loved her, i send my deepest condolences. I pray she will find eternal peace, Godspeed, and I know we can all be comforted in knowing that her dancing partners are lining up to greet her, the music is playing…as they welcome her home!

  4. So sorry to hear about your mom.
I loved her. Our friendship is something I have always cherished and our memories together make me smile. We were college roommates for 4 years and Shirley and I experienced so many things. From skiing to cheerleading to swimming, we explored some pretty amazing activities for two young women in those days. Your mom was so proud of the family and spoke to me about all their successes. Sending prayers and comfort your way during this time.

  5. Thinking of my 50 years of knowing “Mrs. Stellhorn”! She was a unique, active, and enthusiastic person. I am recalling many, many sleepovers (where she undoubtedly had to hear me and Pam giggling and putting on fantastic shows with our terrific singing!). I recall her making the BEST tuna fish sandwiches ever. I recall her sitting in traffic on the Robert Moses Causeway hauling us to the beach, or picking us up from roller skating or the movies. I recall her terrific dancing at my wedding. Mostly, I recall seeing her enjoy her own daughters and grandchildren pursuing their lives and building their families. She, and your whole, wonderful family, are in my prayers.

2 Timothy 4:7—-“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

  6. Thinking of all of you during these sorrowful days. We are sending our love and condolences. Yesterday we listened via streaming to the words of the minister at 3:30 and today, Friday, we tuned into the funeral service at St James Lutheran Church via YouTube. Thank you so much for making it possible for us to join with all of you. We are keeping you all in our prayers.
