Sigmund 'Ziggy' Maruszewski passed away on Monday November 11, 2019. He was 94 years old. His was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence, who passed in 1998, 40 years after the couple married. Ziggy called Florence his 'adorable sweetheart of a wife.' Ziggy was a WWII veteran and served in the China Burma India corridor. Serving his country was his proudest accomplishment and he was fortunate to have participated in an Honor Flight in 2014, traveling from Long Island to tour the WWII memorial in Washington, D.C. After returning home from the war, he worked for Dodge Phelps and retired from Freeport McMoran. He was an avid Mets fan and could recite stats on any player until his very last days. Ziggy is survived by several nieces, nephews, loving friends and the best neighbors.

  1. Siggy was one in a million! Sandra and I met Sig in 1998 and were close friends to the end. We will miss him very much.We will visit him and Florence frequently as their internment is close to Sandra’s parents in Calverton. We will always keep you in our heart, Sandra and Earl.

  2. I was sadden to hear that Uncle Ziggy ( really my father’s cousin but we were brought up to call him Uncle Ziggy and Aunt Florence) passing. My heart is sadden. We talked on the phone all the time. He is with his sweetheart Aunt Florence. I know he missed her so much. I sent him a album of my parents 50th anniversary party cause he couldn’t attend. I offered to come get him and so did my brother. With my own health condition I couldn’t get to Long Island to see him. He will ever be in my thoughts and prayer . Dawn Maruszewski
